Let's keep it current, 2020 and US/North America focused.
5 years ago it would have been no question, the UFC was buzzing heavy and guys like Floyd and Manny were on their way out..there was little light for boxing..
Since about 2017 Boxing in general has been picking up a lot of momentum over the last 3 years thanks to the heavyweight resurgence, and a lot of younger fighters entering their primes, as well as prospects with social media appeal.
ESPN and FOX are also playing a huge part, there hasn't been this type of mainstream attention on boxing in a long, long time...this is MUCH bigger than it ever was on HBO. Guys like Wilder and Fury have literally more than tripled their social media following in 2 years.
I would say at this present moment it is pretty even.
I am seeing much more boxing videos and boxing content, it's starting to become normal, a lot of regular people are starting to get into boxing...mitt training etc.
I'm also seeing a resurgence of pure boxing gyms with a modern twist.
I would imagine that it would be even bigger if boxing was under 1 major league like the UFC has a monopoly over MMA. It would unquestionably be bigger than MMA if that was the case as it's so much easier to push content consistently across the board and the pool of megastars and stars that get attention would be pretty deep.
That being said...even with the fragmented nature of "boxing" and all the different parties involved, the sport has done an amazing job of re-emerging (thanks in part to the ESPN and FOX deals, as well as the overall deep talent pool across almost every division right now)Comment

Boxing still has the bigger individual stars but they can't pump out PPV's every month the way UFC does. MMA has a deeper roster of fighters that the average sports fan knows about.

And who exactly are these stars? The biggest boxing stars still in the US is the 53 year old Mike Tyson and the 43 year old Floyd Matweather both retired.
Who is the new breed of boxing stars in the US? Wilder? We saw how that went.
Compare the social media followings of the top UFC stars vs some top boxng stars who aren't dependent primarily on their fellow country men following them like Canelo and AJ.Comment

Mayweather can still sign a fight at any time that he chooses and outsell anything that UFC puts together.
Having a country behind you doesn't make you less popular. If anything it's a great place to start. That's how McGregor started.
And last but not least the US does not represent the world lol. They just think they do.Comment

Four and five are interchangeable between Fury and Jon Jones.
Remember that the UFCs PPV model is different to boxings, always has been. The cards are deeper and the UFC name itself is a brand. There seems to be a baseline of like 100-150k who will buy literally any PPV the UFC puts out regardless of whos fighting. Whereas boxing ppvs are pretty much entirely driven by one fight.
Nobody won from that one. Boxing fans get no boxing games, MMA fans get ****ty UFC games compared to when THQ was making them. Ironically the best MMA game EA made was the one they did before they got the UFC license.Comment
