First of all, no fans, no fight. Secondly, Crawford vs. Porter is not enough to ask fans to pay $80, however if you ****e up the event with GRJ vs. Stevenson @ 126, I would pay $80 in an instant! Lastly, why does it have to be an event on ESPN and FOX? Porter should just go fight Bud on ESPN. If he wins, then Bud would go fight Porter on FOX for the rematch. What's wrong with that? We didn't have 2 platforms for GGG vs. Jacobs, nor GRJ vs. Lomachenko, nor Joshua vs. Ruiz, so why is it necessary for Crawford vs. Porter?

Sincerely hope it can happen but given the likelihood that the live gate would be severely reduced and that a lotta folk are gonna find it harder to buy a PPV I can see the issue with financing that ish. I guess the real question then will be how far either Bob or both fighters are willing to get underpaid (compared to what the fight would usually be worth) to make in happen.

I think Crawford said it best himself the other week when he said that with all the uncertainties of PPV etc, he would want a higher guaranteed purse. Meantime the promotion loses the gate revenue, so from a promoter's point of view (whether its the Bobfather or anyone else) you have higher fixed costs (Crawford's increased guarantee) and higher risk on the marginal revenue (gate and PPV) - financially that's a non-starter.

He's absolutely right. Boxers want more money than ever when they can't sell out arenas, can barely sc**** a million viewers on network television, and can't even sell PPVs.

Tell you what no one looks great after fighting Porter. Crawford vs Porter is prime time because it’s meaningful, a battle between two dogs and no one knows what will happen. Any issue with selling post pandemic would be an applicable issue for EVERY fight. So why attach the post pandemic selling challenge to a great fight like Crawford vs Porter but ignore it for other fights like Crawford vs Brook?

Wasn’t Spence vs Porter one of the highest producing PPV’s of 2019? So what is Bob saying about his ability to Promote Crawford if he can’t do the same? Maybe this is an early confirmation Spence is the clearly dominant A-Side despite Bobs earlier protests.

Porter vs Crawford sells a lot more than the Brook fight in the US. Bob needs to admit it, the problem is it’s a much riskier fight for Crawford. Stop insulting our intelligence. Not sure why it has to be 70 or 80 but I would pay for the reasonable PPV, not like I have other things to do right now with the money or time.

However the way Brook has looked lately, I don’t know if I have the same interest. In his prime Brook vs Crawford would have been the more compelling fight. However Porter looks better than he ever has and Brook just looks war torn and battered post GGG and Spence.

Porter may just be the number 3 to 4 Welterweight today. I am just not convinced Thurman beats him in the second fight and we have yet to see Crawford fight a killer at 147. Either way let’s see it, compelling fights do sell! In addition, should Crawford past this test it just makes Spence vs Crawford or Crawford vs Pacquiao both even bigger fights.

Great post and great question! Why is Crawford vs. Brook profitable, and Crawford vs. Porter not? The only variable may be that Brook brings in the UK viewers, and Bob believes Porter would not be as valuable?
