I've read a few of you doubting Carl Froch... May I remind you that he boxed in front of 80.000 fans in Wembley? All doubts cleared now, I guess!? Kinda Carl's fault for not mentioning it, people tend to forget.

This post is obv. sarcastic nature.

in honesty he right if hes talking about the calzaghe who fled SMW to avoid the mando with Froch, as Calzaghe was getting knocked over by old hopkins and jones by then.

But it would a different matter, had froch when a 9 fight novice nobody yet to contest the english title, had accepted the wbo title shot joe wanted to give him - prime joe would surely outpoint novice 9 bout froch in Cardiff.

I wanted to wait until I read all the comments before giving my opinion. Why? Because my opinion is Calzaghe is one one of the ATGs and Froch while a damn good fighter is not close to that status. Nothing I read changed my view but rather reinforced it.

Froch might have got an early flash knock down if he was lucky, but Joe would have got to his feet and then smacked him from every direction in each and every remaining round. Easy unanimous decision to Joe, if it had happened.

Froch had a rock-solid chin and he could punch, but he wasn't great technically. Calzaghe was genuinely great technically and his work-rate was second-to-none.

But really, by the time Calzaghe retired, Froch wasn't yet a big name. Joe was fighting superstars; Froch was fighting pretty much exclusively in Nottingham at that point. No wonder there was little interest from Calzaghe.

in reality Joe had himself the year before risen to fighting for a recognised title with Lacy in 2006, and finally become the division number one against Kessler in 2007. The he promptly left, just when he could have gone on to become an elite. There was no transition to being superstar, he avoided it.
