People will do what they want. Same way people will point out how salty and pathetic it looks. The guy just started a hater thread for no apparent reason about a guy who isn't even fighting anymore. Seems like some people are seriously butt-hurt and Ward's living in their heads.

Again, this is a boxing forum man...there is no boxing on...Ward is one of the most noteworthy fighters of the past 10 years...he is also a very controversial fighter, as a lot of fighters are really...occasionally there will be threads about him.

I would say you guys look like the 'butt-hurt' ones...instead of dispassionately refuting the criticism Ward gets...you guys just name-call and sulk.

You could make an argument for or against Ward...or you can do whatever it is that you guys are doing.

a masterpiece? why would you say that? ward won but not really anything compelling in that fight. good first half from ward/poor strategy from froch then the second half devolved into the same wrestling crap ward always does and he hung on for the win. certainly not one for the archives

Ward's style like many others leads to unintended (and maybe some intended) headbutts. No one complained when Maidana did it to Floyd ... called it roughhousing, lol. Same for Duran, BoomBoom Mancini, many others. And so it is.

If I were gonna fight Ward, I'd have a "style" answer or counter-tactics if I felt he were gonna be using headbutts. That's just me though. Protect YOURSELF the ref says ...

how do you counter a headbutt though? are you talking about doing something illegal back to him? yeah of course you could just give him a combo to the testicles or something but guess what would happen then? you would be dq'd, you would be out of the purse for the fight, suspended for future fights, etc...thats economic pressure right there and ward knew how to apply it effectively. thats why he made sure he got all home fights in the super six, why he refused to travel, why he made sure he was the a-side for every one of his other fights. even if you beat ward like kovalev did the judges will still get you on the cards so his career was just pointless. just a total creation in the search to create stars because they thought they could make money off of him, and it totally backfired. they did all that for him and he could never draw and just retired. seriously who is going to watch a ward fight for entertainment value or to watch good boxing? its not there. its a guy wrestling most the fight unless its against a weak opponent. he only had to cheat against the good opponents which says it all. he couldnt box against the better opponents and turned it into wrestlemania and the refs just like in wrestling would conveniently turn their backs(metaphorically) whenever ward was fouling.

The creation of this thread and the contents of the opening post look salty to a lot of people. You can deny it if you want, we'll agree to disagree.

I've already said my piece on Ward and the criticism he gets. I was never a fan of his. He had an ugly style, he bent the rules, he was highly effective, highly successful. Not really worth crying about imo. You don't have to like someone or be a fan of them but whining and actively being a hater, especially when the guy isn't even fighting anymore, is not a good look imo.

PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES. Fighters who keep that in mind no how to handle "dirty" fighters ... they come prepared for it.

Yes, that is the question. Many good fighters have answered the question over the years (as there is no one fits all answer). You have to study your opponent, and as any other opponent, take him out of his game .... even if his game is headbutts.
