Of course he's planning on retiring at 36. He doesn't want what happened to GGG to happen to him. Canelo would never take on a young elite fighter in his prime if he were 36 years plus. Sure it's smart even if it won't do anything for his legacy. He's already made a ton of cash and doesn't need to box anymore if he doesn't want to.Comment

Same here. I'm actually not a fan of Canelo for various reasons but anyone who thinks Lara won is not being honest. He never outboxed Canelo, he just ran all night. I'm also willing to bet those same people who think Lara "schooled" Canelo criticized AJ for outboxing Ruiz.
I also had the 1st GGG/Canelo fight for Golovkin and had Golovkin beating Canelo by a point in the rematch (5 rds for Canelo, 6 for GGG and 1 even) although I could accept a draw or one point either way.Comment

I openly dislike Canelo for his diva’ish weight demands, failing a drug test etc but he clearly won that fight. Lara did nothing for 8 of those rounds.Same here. I had GGG winning by 1 round in the second myself but I'm throwing a bone to those who think you score boxing the same way you score ice skating.Comment

Canelo stay avoiding the tough fights. Charlo, Andrade, any of the real champions at 168 (not Rocky Fielding who isn't even a real champion), and any of the prime, not over the hill guys at 175.
He'll definitely make it to 36 with that formula.Comment

I've always felt Canelo would be done by age 35 because he's been fighting pro since age 15. Not only that, but he's been at the world level since 19. He also has a lot of rounds under his belt, in contrast to someone like Golovkin who started his pro career much later in his life, and has had a relatively easy path KO no hopes and accumulating nearly half the amount of rounds Canelo has.
However, Canelo is an extremely disciplined fighter when it comes to his health, so he may very well be able to keep his prime past 35, we shall see, boxing is always full of surprises.Comment
