the brain doenst care about age, it cares about punishment. he looked bad in a bunch of fights in a row and had a style where he took lots of shots. that's usually not a good sign at all.

if you look at that run, he lost the first martinez fight in my mind but whether you think he won or lost he took tons of huge shots, next fight was cintron and he didnt seem to be pulling the trigger in that fight and looked poor, then he got ko'd cold, next fight was lara where he again took tons of punishment and clearly lost, next fight was a wide win over ishida but not an impressive one.

Yeah I had him losing the first Sergio fight also, and anyone with a brain thought Lara beat him, but again Sergio and Lara were top talents. I don't think losing to them or looking bad against them is a career definer. Hell, I still look at Lara as undefeated.

He was definitely not a guy the top dogs wanted to fight, but the Quintana loss was a big blow. After the rematch he just left the WW division completely and he may have possibly gotten a big fight at some point with the bigger names.

p.williams is overrated imo... he fought nobody but b-c level comp... he's only being talked about on here because he has a win over martinez but now that i went back and look at some of martinez's fight, he was average axx hell!!!

no wonder why he couldnt do shiiet against an old fading cotto (coming off an injury or not) martinez couldnt do shiiet! was getting clipped with the same hook over and over. why? because he's been fighting b-c level comp until he finally fought an old fading cotto who still has more tools than the average mofos he's been fighting.

He wasn't skipped over at 147.

Getting upset is the first defence of his title after upsetting Margarito derailed the possibility of a big fight at 47 for a minute, and then he dropped the belt and moved up immediately after the rematch.

Talked about moving down for the right name, but that was fantasy talk. Eighteen months after beating Quintana in the rematch for his title at 147, Williams fought Martinez at 160.
