To be fair, we haven't seen Ortiz in his physical prime and the 80's guys weren't consistent so it's conceivable that he may have picked up a strap from anyone not named Holmes but Spoon, Tubbs, Thomas and Page were very very good on the right night.
Before the drugs started kicking his ass, Thomas in particular would've been all wrong for Ortiz imho.

I think Fury is an amazing fighter and love watching him fight, and imo he belongs up there with any champion of any era. Absolutely

But outside him, this current era of HW’s is without a doubt one of if not the worst in boxing history.

Well, even Liakhovich was a WBO champ back in 2006, before losing a title against Briggs, so, who knows.

Brewster was funny dude, he stopped Wladimir, but lost against Liakhovich.

You haven't been watching very long.

"Without doubt one of the worst"

          "Without doubt" though

I can think of at least 10 worse time periods in the division and there's been dozens of champions and top contenders who would lose to multiple of today's fighters

You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

There's plenty of quality fighters in the division right now. Top 3 strongest heavyweight divisions of all time probably alongside 70s and 90s.

I think he might have beaten Joshua the night Joshua fought Ruiz.

                  I don't agree

Ruiz beat Joshua by applying constant pressure and volume in close after the initial knockdown, having a great chin helped too.

That's not Ortiz game he stands off, throws single shots and doesn't have high workrate or stamina.

Basically Ortiz can't do what Ruiz can, he probably could theoretically catch AJ but it'd be like the Wilder fight where he gets smothered, gasses and then gets taken out himself

I think it is. We got Fury who stands out as easily the most gifted Boxer in the division. We got Joshua who is rounding his game off nicely and that's it right now and I'm a huge Joshua fan but I'm not going to pretend he isn't flawed.

I've said this a number of times, in general the division is very competitive but that doesnt mean its brimming with high level talent, its just competitive.

I've never been overly impressed with Wilder, Whyte, Parker, Ortiz, Pulev and so on. In a different era we wouldn't even be paying any attention to these guys. But together they make for a competitive division which is great. I'm really enjoying Heavyweight Boxing but I only see 1 real stand out guy.

Which different era wouldn't we pay attention to these guys? In any era I can think of, everything you said could be said about it as well.

You're looking at a super strong and competitive division where most guys can beat the other incl. the champions on any given night.

                      That's quite special-
