Tyson only lost/got discouraged by opponents who stopped him with firepower to earn respect and inflict punishment. This was not Jones. Jones wasn’t gonna bully Tyson.
Could HW Roy Jones have beat a washed up Tyson in 2004?

ok that gets him through the first fight.
That doesnt get him through Tarver 2 and glen johnson
He was never the same after that, basically his reflexes were gone.
He also was never a "HW" he realistically was a CW and only in the 190s, so he really gained 10lbs, not 20-30 or whatever he wants you to believe.Comment

lol
This is outright lying.
He was what, 185+ on fight night as a light heavy.
He was 194 vs ruiz on fight night as a "heavyweight".
Realistically its 10lbs max differenceComment

And there is a reason Jones turned down all those offers.
You couldnt pick a more tailor made style for jones than a slow plodding Ruiz who needs to tie his opponents up on the inside that a quick footed Jones could easily dart in and out of range and pot shot all night. And oh by the way Ruiz happened to have a title belt.
They saw the opportunity, took and and got the hell out of the division.
Its a great win for what it was but they had all the financial incentive in the world to fight basically any other heavyweight out there and they knew damn well Jones was going back to 175.Comment

so he cut weight for a heavyweight fight? You keep repeating 193, but I think Boxrec has the official weight on Friday. I remember a talk that fight night RJJ was 199. In any case if someone finds pre-fight pictures of 1st Tarver fight - he looked like an old man. RJJ should've retired after Ruiz. Or make Tarver gain weight and fight him at 190 limit. Moving all the way back to 175 was a bad decision.
and on the flip side, all of his 175 fights were also weighed in the night before. He'd enter the ring probably somewhere around....190 lolLast edited by _Rexy_; 04-04-2020, 10:57 AM.Comment
