Comments Thread For: Teddy Atlas: Golovkin Is Shot Fighter; Canelo-GGG Trilogy Too Late

Hall of Fame trainer Teddy Atlas believes that a third match between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is well past its expiration date. A meeting between Golovkin and Alvarez could very likely take place on Mexican Independence Day in September once the boxing schedule resumes with regularly scheduled events after the global pandemic of coronavirus. Atlas, however, insists a trilogy between the two archrivals has already exceeded its shelf life.

Whatever happens In 3rd fight doesn't change the fact that golovkin won the first two fights in the eyes of most people.

Lol...GGG started looking shot, as soon as he started fighting other good fighters.

He was by far a champion and top fighter in his weight class but he never proved to be the all time great beast HBO said he was. When surrounded by real contenders he looked very beatable.

Had nothing to do with age, it was his competition. He was good l, just not the “top 25,” all time great Middleweight Lampley and company attempted to create.

****** to say age wasn't a factor when he got all those fights well into his 30s. Mayweather was 20 or 21 when he fought Gennaro Hernandez. Cotto was 26 when he fought Paulie Malinaggi. Canelo was 23 when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. Sergei Kovalev was 30 when he fought B-Hop. Conversely, GGG was a month away from 34 years old when he fought Danny Jacobs.

Canelo is riding a crest wave. He destroyed Kovalev. Why would anyone think he wont do the worse to GGG.

Which isn't the fault of the other fighters. He needs to be held accountable.

Just like Crawford where he's sparking B-levels in his 30's and will likely continue to do so. Hold him accountable.

Where its appropriate yes he should be held accountable. For instance, I think Jacobs and Dervy are every bit as worthy of getting a rematch with GGG as GGG was worthy of getting his rematch with Canelo. He should have ****** it up and met Canelo at a catchweight when Canelo gave up the 160 belt. Whether Canelo weight drained him or was waiting for him to age he would have been at a disadvantage regardless. But lets not pretend age isn't a factor and that he wasn't ducked during much of his career.

And let’s not pretend GGG didn’t duck 168-175 much of his career. That had nothing to do with Canelo.

So you’re saying GGG couldn’t have ranked at 168 like the ages you described in mid to late 20’s with other boxers and only focus on “34” with Jacobs?

So of you GGG fans don’t own up to the truth. GGG been a professional starting at what age? How much wear and tear did Loma have before turning pro? Is Loma a multi division Champ?
