Is Carl Froch a HOF'er?

Yes he will get in. He would be at the bottom end end of fighters in it, but he did enough imo...I always describe him as the human truth machine in the ring, if you are wanting in any area he would eventually find and exploit it. He was an iron man with incredible, toughness, stamina, good power, and underrated smarts.

I think he is the epitome of what makes boxing unique and special, there are so many ways to do it, to be successful...a guy with limited skill and technique finds a formula. That is what I love about boxing.

I actually think he was one of very few fighters today who was harmed by the 12 round distance. He would have been a better fighter in the 15 round days.

I honestly couldn't have put it better and those are much the same things I love about the sport at any level, that test of character, of the will to win regrdless of what natural skills or physical attributes a fighter has. And yeah, make it 15 rounds in this currect era and Froch was one of those who woulda thrived on it. One of the few guys who always seemed to get stronger at the end of the fight as his opponents started to fade.

Truth machine in the ring... I like that.

Froch is one of those fighters I didn't like much at first and I didn't think there was anything special about him, but after so many good performances and proving me wrong, he ended becoming one of my favorite fighters when he was around.

It was after the first Kessler fight where I became a fan of Froch, even though he lost that night.

The Bute fight was my favorite.

Gotta say yeah although it's hard to tell if I'm being objective or not when Carl was one of my favourite fighters of the last 20 years.

Although it's possible to point out that the fighters he beat were not always at their peak at the time he fought them he still had something like half a dozen guys who were divisional leaders at some point in their careers on his ledger. That's unusual. Add to that a willingness to take on anyone in his division and you got a winner with me...


Besides, just gotta love the guy's absolute refusal to quit, I mean Carl's good - an underated boxer and his chin was phenomenal - but more than anything he had that quality which is more needed than any other in a fighter.. Grit. An absolute determination to win. Even when he was getting his socks boxed off by Dre the dude never got discouraged and in fact if you watch the final coupla rounds of that fight you'll start to see it's Ward just starting to look a bit taken aback when Carl's still coming on strong... checking the clock as if to say 'How the fuck long do I have to do to keep this guy offa me. Why won't he just lie down and accept the L?'

Ward said it was his toughest fight, even more than Kovalev... and that was because of Carl's will.

Great post. Especially the part about the last few rounds in the Ward fight. Froch's rabbit punches were paying dividends while he was coming on strong. It ain't cheating if you trying lol

Yes. He has a lot of very good wins, avenged a loss to a very good Kessler, and Ward is the only man he didn't beat, and nobody beat Ward (officially) He was a very hard man to beat. Good thudding power, granite chin and always finished fights strongly. I think he fought at Wembley infront of 80,000 people as well. But, I might be wrong on that.

Lol I can't lie. In his early career, Froch was a loud trash talker like Paulie M. I remember seeing his highlight before the Pascal fight and thinking "who the hell is this dude. He doesn't have a shot against Joe".

Needless to say, he proved me wrong.

I don't know if he would've beat Joe head to head, but he definitely turned out to be greater than Joe.

you're right about the timing... and the thing is, with the benefit of hindsight we know how tough Froch is, he proved his mettle over time... but when I think back to the Taylor fight he would have struggled with Calzaghe, who is still under-valued even now

Calzaghe's style/mindset/insane stamina... made him VERY difficult to beat

I usually prefer technicians, always have... but Froch made me like him
