Can GG catch Canelo like Marquez did to Pac?

Part of what you're saying is because Manny was at his Apex in JMM 4 despite JMM being 39 years old. That was the best rematch win of all time.Well - dog **** wouldn't be in my description of a fighter who can still hang with the top guys in a division, but relative to 5 years ago, I hear ya.
Irrespective of trainer, though, dude's just getting older and guys are also figuring him out (Rozier for instance figured that a swarming kinda style's gonna look pretty good against GGG), and I ain't giving Golovkin much of a chance here... if he couldn't get the nod 2 years ago he sure as eff ain't gonna get it now... fact I think the Canelo KO is a very likely outcome.
All I was saying though is that I can't see Canelo walking him onto a lights-out counter like JMM-Pac. My entire point was that Golovkin ain't a dude that's gonna commit to his offense to an extent where he just walks into something like that - just ain't how he does business. Most likely it'll resemble the first two fights, Golovkin sticking behind the jab and not really taking the chances that give Canelo the chance to do what he does best, cept this time GGG will be that bit slower, easier to catch on the counter in what offense he does launch, and Canelo more able to confidently commit offensively. If I had to predict I'd say Canelo kinda busts him up until a corner stoppage late, but I think a lights out KO is frankly unlikely.
At that time Manny was believing his own hype and invincibility so he made a MAJOR error.
GGG is the JMM in this situation and hes been trending down for years. He keeps fighting construction workers because he has no confidence. He will not go all-out and get KOd.
I'd bet big $$ part of GGGs $100 million contract was a mandatory fight w/ Canelo. That's why GGG has done nothing but chase him.
Canelo did exactly what GGG did in the 2nd fight which is hold out for more money.
I expect GGG to get hurt to the body and then upstairs. His jab wont be as strong as it once was and his timing continues to fade. Canelo is gonna hurt this boy and to be honest its deserved.
50/50 chance GGG pulls out imoComment

More likely the other way around. BBB side is a one trick pony. He overwhelmed bums that were in house arrest and guys moving up from 147 to 160.
Against world class comp BBB side wasn’t knocking anyone out and looked pedestrian.
Canelo is closer to Marquez with high ring IQ and a able to move and counter. That Pacquiao shot was more about footwork, head movement and accuracy than just brute strength.
Now BBB side does have a solid chin so the likelihood of any KO is low. I see a 12 round schooling by the Cash Cow as a final FU to BBB side.Comment

I wouldn't compare this rivalry to Pac vs Marquez.
I think it will end up more the like the Pac vs. Morales trilogy, where one guy won the first fight (should have won in GGG's case), lost a close second fight, but beaten badly in the third fight.Comment

Nah, lots of boxers learned from Manny’s mistake.
Most of them are scared to pull the trigger with fear of being countered these days. They just rather play it safe.
Gennady had two fights with Canelo and neither time did he go the for the KO. It won’t happen in the 3rd.Comment

Well, not quite sure how you pulled all that from my post, although for sure JMMs win over Pac was a great one, especially at his age and more especially given what Manny has accomplished since.
Actually though all I was doing was pointing out an important stylistic difference between Pac and Golovkin for all that they're both considered formidable offensive fighters. Simply this - Pac will lay it all on the line looking for the killer shot (or at least he used to), whereas GGG is more calculated, more technical and less prone to taking a risk looking for the finish... which has worked well for him in the past, but in this circumstance I think may work against him, because I think going for broke may be his best chance against Canelo.
In terms of both GGGs and Canelo's DAZN contracts it's my understanding that both of 'em have guaranteed $ sums per fight, but both were promised very substantial bonuses for facing one another.
And as for 'deserved'. well, this is boxing, man. Deserved ain't even part of the equation, and is anyway - whether in life or boxing - simply a matter of perspective. Way I see it every fighter should be doing his absolute best to squeeze what he can outta this unfogiving business whilst he can, because no one knows what'll happen tomorrow and boxing has a habit of throwing away old fighters fighters like used up tissues.
Any man who can get out of it with his health intact and enough money to see his family comfortable for life deserves congratualtions far as I'm concerned.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 03-21-2020, 12:32 PM.Comment
