he is what his resume says he is, period...

Why do that when he was entangled in the undisputed Canelo fights at 160? Also, you may want to check the resume' that says that he's 21-1-1(19) in title fights. He is indeed what his resume' says.

the same way people keep defending a guy who tested positive for banned substance, that's way worse.

Boxing and ducking cowards cheated GGG out of his best performances. The sport and fans were cheated out of seeing GGG at his best.

Dumb statement. GGG's title defenses came against fighters with an overall average record of 30-3. That's a 90% opponent win ratio. Nobody else with more than a few MW title fight wins can claim that, not even Hopkins.

Yet, somehow that fact somehow gets totally ignored. Also, it's a fact that he was popped in the midst of the GGG fights!

if you have not banked those wins... you need not apply for the position

you can argue that he may have beaten some of those guys... but that is irrelevant, because he did not

I am not convinced at all that Golovkin could have beaten Pavlik
Great post. I agree with everything. Green K.

You can’t make this **** up this is like the 34th bum on this clowns record yet his fans just turn a blind eye but proceed to bash Canelo for facing Saunders lol

                  Unbelievable.
The same way GGG haters can keep bashing him. Personally, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Do I see him as an all-time great? No, but do I see him as a "bum" or "overrated hype job"? No I don't

Here are my objective pros and cons regarding GGG:

                  Pros
He was avoided by Felix Sturm, Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto during his peak of 2012-2015. If he was such an overrated hype job then either Martinez or Cotto would have faced him. For example, Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. fit that description and Martinez had no problem smacking him around for 11 plus rounds.

He pretty much obliterated the best of the rest until he was gifted the WBC title at 160 when Canelo vacated to avoid a purse bid.

Fought a prime Canelo tooth-and-nail at an age where most pressure fighters fall off rapidly. Also probably deserved a win in at least one of the fights.

                  Cons
The "I'll face anyone from 154-168" statement was a mistake. What he should have said is "I will kill myself to make 154 for Mayweather or Pacquiao because who wouldn't? however 160 is my natural weight". He never should have mentioned 168.

Probably should have been willing to budge a little on his purse to get Canelo in the ring a year sooner. Time isn't on his side and he might have won decisively in 2016 (pre-Kell Brook)

Could have fought Erislandy Lara in an effort to outperform Canelo against a common opponent.

In summary, I see Golovkin as an aging great fighter who is still very good. He could have done some things differently (like everyone else in the world) and I wish he had gotten to face an elite opponent sooner.

It's the easiest way to rack up lots of defences and claim ATG status

I don't blame him for protecting his best interests, but what a disappointing direction his career took. If he doesn't finish out with some strong opponents after Canelo I'm done.
