Can't really blame anyone in this situation. The real problem is an absolute lack of depth in women's boxing. Shields was fighting top contenders, and regional/world titles in her first handful of fights. I saw most of these matchups and the skill level of these "contenders" left alot to be desired.
Claressa dropped weight to go after the next relevant name near her in weight - Christina Hammer. Hammer looks impressive punching a bag or a stationary opponent but looked absolutely dreadful in that fight. Couldn't handle pressure whatsoever. If Hammer was even remotely competitive, they would have tried to squeeze out a rematch just to get some buzz or rivalry going.
