Call me crazy, but I think the point of this fight, and the others over who knows how long, is/was/will continue for the time being, to be entertaining for the people who want to spend their money on watching guys punch each other, which can usually be accomplished easiest by putting fighters in a ring together who are capable of being entertaining. Of course there are tons of other secondary reasons, but those reasons do not exist without people who want to pay to watch them. Fighters can talk pride and honor all the live long day, but they are not doing the thing for free, and should't be expected to do so either
