  • THROWBACK: Scoring Castillo/Mayweather 1

One of the most controversial boxing matches in history. Floyd was not on my radar at this time of his career, I was all about the heavyweights especially Lennox Lewis.

In watching the fight back - and I've seen it at least three times over the years - there was no situation where I saw a robbery. I saw a very close contested fight - and what really made it "controversial" might be people ignoring the point deductions.

I counted 4 swing rounds. That's a lot. Two I gave to Floyd, two I gave to Jose.

Either way, this was a pick-em and definitely warranted the rematch which was still close, but clearer for Floyd.

    The crowd booed the decision.

....you don't have to give the other guy the round when a point gets deducted...you still score the round 10-9 (or 10-8 etc) and then deduct the point afterwards.

Otherwise I agree with your general post about the fight...I can see 3-3 or 4-2 Floyd after 6...and can see 3-3 or 4-2 JLC after the last 6.

Could see someone getting to 7 rounds for JLC...but the two times I have watched and scored it, I had it 6-6 and 7-5 Floyd.

Because Castillo got a point taken off in round 8, you're giving the round to Mayweather?

I thought Castillo should've had that early slip (I wanna say in the second round but I could be wrong) scored a knockdown against him when I last saw the fight but it's been a while.

that fight is not the robbery that everyone says

it was actually... not a robbery at all

            Mayweather was lucky

boxing was lucky that Mayweather did the right thing.. with immediate rematch

Your image is what I'm talking about.

Round 2 they gave to Floyd - fine. Swing round.

Round 3 and 4 they gave to Castillo - Floyd was WAY more consistently accurate.

              Round 8 they did 9-9. It's a 10 POINT MUST.

Round 9 Castillo was ineffective and missing with the aggression.

Whoever gave that card was only scoring for the 30 seconds or so that Castillo looked good and ignoring the remainder of the round. And Round 8 is just scored wrong.

BUT, if you score Round 8 correctly, you end up with 114-112 for Floyd. Which is the correct score.

Negative - otherwise, Wilder/Fury 1 wasn't a draw and countless other fights weren't scored properly.

It's a 10 POINT MUST SYSTEM. If Floyd had gotten dropped or a point deducted, only then can you go 9-9.

CompuBox is not how you score fights.
