Was the bar very big and busy? I ask because a lot of times around here they charge cover because I think getting the fight is expensive. And if they get caught bootlegging it it's a five-figure fine.

I would say there was 100 people in there, it wasn't a big bar but it was fully packed out.

I’m surprised 800k homes bought this PPV at $80. With gate rev the whole fight generated a little over $100mill I imagine.

The fight may have lost money because of the fighter purses but damn did this fight made a crap ton of money with a pretty much dead platform. Nobody wants to buy no $80 dollar PPV. Idc how much money you make.

Despite not being a “success” I still applaud these PPV #s. I thought 500k would be a stretch.

Boxing, MMA, Premier League, NFL, NBA every sport is being Illegally Streams somewhere

Boxing Fans want all these big match ups but don't want to support when big fights are made, I will make Promoter not even bother to make more big fights via Cross Promotion
This. The same thing with movies, music and other sports. But the record shows that people are still willing to pay money when it's worth it. Just look at Avengers and pretty much every Marvel movie and then May vs Pac or Canelo vs Golovkin. The fact is consumers know the value of a dollar and they no when something is overpriced. If you only had quality fights on PPV or fairly priced PPV fights, i believe they would do better overall - promotion not withstanding. But it's going to be tough to justify a ppv price at $80 and expect it to sell in the millions.

That can’t happen. If there are more good matches, with good names on the undercards, then that will increase the amount of PPV’s they need to sell in order to compensate the better names on the undercard.

There have been fight cards that were good from top to bottom and still flopped.

There’s very few fighters who can afford to put decent matches on their undercards and these are fighters that come once a decade. They know they’re going to sell enough PPV’s to cover their guarantee, make a profit and leave money left over for good fighters on the undercard.

With that said, I stopped buying PPV’s a while ago. I think 2015 was the last time.

the PPV numbers are great... BUT that is only one side of the equation... they spent A LOT of money advertising the fight as well.

If you spend enough on advertising, you can get 40 million to buy a PPV fight... it just doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money.

So they did generate good buys... but they lost their shirts trying to get so many people interested enough.

Not quite, I firmly believe by lowering the PPV prices, you will have a lot more people buying a PPV vs trying to find a stream... myself included.

Put it this way, there is a reason people pay $15 to $40 per month for software versus having a choice between spending $500 or downloading it for free.

$15 or even $30 for a PPV would be an easy choice to pay versus taking a risk with streams, unknown websites, etc.... but the PPV and promoters are too greedy and charge nuts prices.

Just compare average UFC vs average boxing PPV.

I have NEVER purchased a boxing PPV... but when DAZN made it an easy decision, I absolutely signed up and paid for the year and will be renewing.

People will pay. But they won't pay over the odds.

I used to download loads of music and movies. Now I have services that make it easy for me to watch so I just pay for them.

I illegally streamed in Australia, because I don't have a choice. The PPV is controlled by a cable provider - you can't pay your $50 without their hardware. And I'm not prepared to pay for their equipment.

At $80 I can well believe people just thought, nah I'll watch online. If it was a good card and $40 then maybe there'd be a different opinion.
