It does have that feel about it. Next thing the narrative becomes Wilder only losing through a misguided corner and they use that line to sell the third fight.

Hope not though as Breland is a good guy and a smart one too. He made the right call and Wilder would be wise to back him up in any internal discussions however much his pride may have been hurt. Mark did the right thing by his fighter.

Yeah people seem to get caught up in the moment when the stoppage happened and forget that Wilder had basically been very "groggy" for the last 3 rounds or so. He was flopping all over the place off a simple jab, he was laying his hand on the ropes any opportunity he got, etc. Props to Wilder for lasting 3 rounds in such state!

I noticed that too. And since power starts from the legs, he was left with no bombs to turn the tide. He was NOT going to outbox Fury for the rest of the fight.

I don't know if it was the shot to the ear in the 3rd that started his downfall; or it was just a matter of Wilder finally fighting a bigger, smarter opponent with better skills who fought like a bigger, smarter opponent with better skills.

Anyhow, Breland's decision saved Wilder's career, probably prevented his boxer from sustaining permanent damage. IMO, it's Deas who needs to go because he couldn't see that Puncher's Chance = zero when your man has no punch left.

Throwing in the towel was completely the right thing to do idgaf what anyone says. At the end of the day he already had 2 Knockdowns and a busted ear drum that throws your equilibrium off and was fighting a guy that is a superior boxer already with a weight advantage. He had no shot of winning by KO. Pride can get you killed. Why try to let him finish on his feet if he won’t be the same fighter afterwards. It would’ve only gotten worse.

I was surprised the match lasted so long. Tyson was literally torturing Wilder. It seemed to me he was able to keep him "alive" as long as he wanted, just to hurt him more and more. That's why I think that throwing the towel was very wise.

Wilder is not overly intelligent but I hope he has enough smarts to FIRE his entire corner, both trainers, and his strength coach as well. It’s clear his corner is either unwilling or unable to train wilder the way he needs to perform and it’s clear the strength and conditioning coach isn’t training wilder for either stamina or explosiveness. If wilder doesn’t fire his corner and get himself in with someone who actually is capable of producing strategy AND who will treat wilder like a student rather than a star than he has gone as far as he’s going to go. Wilder has horrendous habits as well as an unwillingness to use the entire arsenal of punches, lateral and head movement, and he MUST increase his punch output to be able to throw as much as 100 punches a round if he needs to. Waiting, posing, giving up rounds, constantly moving backwards, and watching is why he is in the hospital with a busted ear drum right now

Fury had 1:30 with Wilder trapped in the corner. Would have done some permanent damage if it kept going...good on Breland.

It's probably best to be abit quiet right after the fight and let the winner have the glory. Better than making yourselves look a joke with weak excuses. I'm even hearing they're blaming the suit he wore to the ring. AJ got shredded after he lost and he didn't make excuses. What a sad show.

A boxer being more inclined to fight on regardless, is exactly the one needing protection by the corner.

Pity the assistant trainer is getting grief for protecting his guy realising this, when the head coach didn't.

I'm pretty sure Wilder mentioned that he never does roadwork. Is it just me but does every fighter who says that have the same falling apart look in a fight where pressure is exerted on them? Running doesn't just help the cardio, it seems to strengthen the legs in a way squats and stuff doesn't. Imo anyway.
