Comments Thread For: Haye: I Believe Wilder is Hardest Punching Heavyweight Ever

Former two division world champion David Haye has given high praise to his former sparring partner, Deontay Wilder. Wilder, who holds the WBC heavyweight title, will defend his belt in a rematch with Tyson Fury on February 22 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. They fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in December 2018.

Just a weight and a ruler is all you need actually.

For single shot right hand power, he may well be, he's certainly in the top 5

For overall power projection, he's not even close, he has one handed power, the straight right is pretty much it, nobody has successfully taken that one shot out of the game though.

Wilder hits way harder than Frazier or Tyson, Foreman is debatable. He's not as good a fighter, but he does hit harder.

We should probably wait and assess after his career is over. The best boxer he will face in his career is Fury so let’s see what happens in the fight. I have him up there with Shavers, Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, Louis, Tua, Marciano, Dempsey, Morrison, Baer, Liston, Frazier SFC but so few of them could routinely blank guys out with one shot. Wilder does but let’s also not forget this is a relatively weak era of boxing in the division....this isn’t the golden era of the 70s and not the next best of the 90s....it’s not even the era of Louis, Baer, Schmeleng, or the era of the 1920s with Dempsey and Tunney.

There was one at a dive bar i used to frequent. No idea how accurate it was but it was some fun especially after a few beers. Nothing like whiffing and missing a stationary speed bag and throwing out your shoulder while trying to look tough in front of the girls.

I think it's clear he's the hardest one-shot puncher simply because he has such a high KO percentage but almost NEVER throws more than a 1-2, or a follow up hook in the very best of circumstances.

Lyle, Frazier, Wlad, Shavers, Tyson, Tua... All of them were monstrous one shot punchers, but all of them were also significantly better combination punchers than Wilder and they still had lower KO percentages.
