There was an HBO meeting in 2013 to make the fight at 168. GGG said yes, Ward said "I can't".

Ward on video calling ggg a liar. I wish I could still find the link where ggg said Ward very disrespectful and said he said a lot of bad words about him. It was the time they met at a party in Cali where Ward punked him bad.... To this day ggg won’t say Wards name. When asked years ago he wouldn’t even say it to the media
I'm just intellectually honest...I wasn't at the meeting, so I can't say for certain that it happened, or that the narrative that came out about the meeting is true.

But the meeting reportedly happened, and the narrative that GGG put out about the meeting more or less makes sense, and is the only narrative about the meeting that is out there, so I phrased it that way...I don't say 'facts' when something can't be 100% verified, which is what a fact is.

Ward btw never has even acknowledged the meeting...someone should ask him about it...though to be fair, Ward is not the most trustworthy guy so I wouldn't take that too seriously...and I'm not talking about minor stuff that could go either way (154-168)...I'm talking about stuff like saying getting dropped by Kov was the first time it happened in his pro career, and then getting upset when Max corrected him that Boone dropped him earlier on.

You guys can pick sides all you want to based on arbitrary factors, that's what fans do...I won't get in the way of you fellas doing that...have fun, be fans...I just keep it real with what I see and if you need any further education on why I phrase things the way I do, feel free to shoot me a message...the professor is here and class is in session ...happy to help you fellas learn a bit.

When HBO asks in 2013 they explain that the fight will take time to build, which is obviously true. At that time neither was a draw, in fact Ward never developed his career to the point where he was a draw, ask Kovalev how much he made to fight Ward.
In 2014 The fight isn't going to happen without considerable build up which Ward said no to.

I’m gonna believe Ward who wasn’t having fights canceled or delayed all the time. Don’t forget it was Oscar that saved the 2nd fight over like 2%.

And I still can’t over that BS with Saunders making it seem like he turned down $7 million which was actually $1.5 million.

its probably a lie, ward would have no reason to fight a guy who had not yet won a title in the ring, and from the lower division, noone would pay.

its always 'would have' when the denominator is GGG taking and winning a big fight.
Meanwhile Ward had five top contender bouts, 4 champions. 4 elites bouts amongst them

all at the age when GGG was just stepping up to fight a titlist first time ever.

Golovkin wanted to fight him in 2013 and Ward didn't want to fight him at that time because it didn't make sense for him. In 2014 Ward offered a fight and Golovkin didn't want to fight him at that time because it didn't make sense for him. He had more lucrative fights lined up. That fight was never going to happen because of timing. Both men got some free publicity out if it and moved on.

He said Andre Ward is too much for me. Not today. It's plain he meant he didn't want to talk about Ward at this press scrum when he was supposed to be talking about his opponent. You are making something out of nothing.
