Even Froch himself said at around the time of the Lemieux fight that the impression he was getting from Loeffler was that they were no longer really interested in fighting him or fighting at 168 - he was talking about even having it above 168 but Loeffler was saying they were really looking at going down if anything.
My sense is that they would have been willing to fight at 168 whilst they were still looking for the big fights but once it started looking like the Cotto or Canelo fight might be on the table they decided to stay at 160 or close to. It wasn't just because it was Ward but because their situation had changed.
What I do agree with is that Ward had very little reason to fight Golovkin back in 2013. For all that HBO was pushing him as the next big star neither his profile outside of the hardcore nor his purses were there yet, not only was Ward in litigation with Goosen at that time (Golovkin acknowledges Ward says something about his promoter and his shoulder) but a GGG fight would have done very little for him at that point.
Way I tend to look at it it's just one of those situations where the timing was just never quite right... I know dudes on here always like to talk like someone's to blame or was ducking or whatever but the real world just don't necessarily work like that. What I will say is that Ward played the PR game far better though - whether or not he knew that Golovkin was in negotiations for his first PPV or not (and given how small the boxing world is it's likely he did) he did know GGG was mando to Canelo / Cotto and that the fight was unlikely to happen, but he nonetheless succeeded in making GGG look a bit of a chump with his offer and permanently deflected any criticisms that he'd somehow avoided Golovkin. Exactly! What he said never happened. There is multiple links out their where ggg’s team called Ward a BET fighter, B-Side, etc.
Ward on video calling ggg a liar. I wish I could still find the link where ggg said Ward very disrespectful and said he said a lot of bad words about him. It was the time they met at a party in Cali where Ward punked him bad.... To this day ggg won’t say Wards name. When asked years ago he wouldn’t even say it to the mediaComment

GGG ducked ward and turned down the fight. I always had a hunch that GGG is a huge pus*y even as far back as 2013, and he validated it by ducking top MWs who came to his division like charlo and andrade.Comment
