Fighters who retired at the right time

Rarely do fighters know when it’s time to hang em up. It has happened before, albeit amid criticism from fans and media.
    I’ll start off with...

    Lennox Lewis.

Beat everyone he ever faced including a younger, fresher Klitschko. Many felt, myself included, that a rematch was in order but it never materialized. Looking back now it was a good decision as it let Vitali carry the momentum from this fight into the rest of his career while we got to see a boxing rarity: a living legend go out on top.

Rocky Marciano. He would have faced Sonny Liston.
Marvin Hagler. He left on top even though he got screwed.
Joe Bunny Fists Calzaghe. Avoided Andre Ward
    Andre Ward
George Foreman. Clearly won his last fight even though he got screwed too. No need to fight anymore. Shocked the world already

Lost to Tyson in 1 round, never fought again.

Retired 31-1 with his health and his money.

Bunny fists or not , Ward would have gotten beaten
Of course no chance of that happening in Oakland

I reckon Marciano, Mayweather, Berry, Lopez, Calzaghe, Ward, & Valero, and, any other unbeaten world champion I may not know or remember atm all proved they knew when.

One could cut PBF and SOG 'cause it's not been too long since last they boxed, but, the rest of them dudes retired at the right time for sure.

Where is this new Liston narrative coming from?

I don’t know if I’d consider Valero “going out on top”. 🤔🤔🤔
