Charlo was Canelo's mandatory. Canelo refused to fight him and was stripped of the world title. The franchise title was created so he and the WBC could save face. Not sure how you can say with a straight face that Canelo was willing to fight Charlo when the fight was ordered and Canelo chose to vacate instead.

Why would there be a contract? Canelo refused the fight. The fight was ordered. Canelo said no. The "franchise title" was created so everyone could save face. If Canelo was willing to fight Charlo, franchise wouldn't exist.
