Both men had fights scheduled when the offer was made by DAZN and there's little evidence that Wilder signing would change those plans.

Wilder would still do his mandatory and AJ would still make his US debut. If he doesn't fight Ruiz, that doesn't mean he beats whoever he does fight either.

In any case, we can speculate or we can go by what actually has happened.

And right now, rejecting the offer looks like the smart move.
If he'd accepted the offer and AJ had then lost, Wilder would have earned twice as much for fighting Breazeale on DAZN then he ended up getting for the same fight on Showtime, and then been free to fight whoever he wanted, wherever he wanted, after that.

No, I don't think it was going to work like that but I would be glad to see anything you might have that might support that.

He would have been paid the same 20 million for Breazeale that he wound up making anyway. The Breazeale fight was before the June upset.

And the contract he was signing specified AJ, not anyone he wished. I highly doubt they'd pay him 40 million to fight anyone he wanted to. They seem to have plenty of input into who the folks they are paying fight.

If AJ loses next month, there's no doubt he made the right choice. If AJ wins, he'll have that AND Fury.

      But, think whatever you like.

Why are fans so fixated on what someone gets paid and not on who they should be fighting or have fought by now?

In a sport called "prizefighting" the subject might come up once or twice.

But more importantly, I keep hearing this false narrative of how much money Wilder supposedly lost or turned down when the truth is he is either at or ahead of where he would have been financially if he'd signed, given what has occurred in the intervening months.

I am glad we are getting a Fury rematch.

And, nothing would be better for the sport than a great fight next month, with either Ruiz proving it wasn't a fluke or AJ proving it was.

But, all this crap about what Wilder turned down is just more fanboy fantasy than truth.

a contract is legally binding. this is not some haymon behind the scenes here is some money deal. joshua is making more money after losing to ruiz so your whole point doesn't make any sense. the fights would still happen no matter what. just like the ****** ortiz rematch happened when no one wanted it. promises were made and big losses were had to satisfy the fighters. there is no need for hypotheticals. the money was there and he didn't go for it out of loyalty. he even said this. he also said he's ******** on himself. well given his purses his gamble didn't pan out. wilder will not make 60 million in his next fight.

This is damage control by a Haymon flunkie. All roads lead to Joshua who is making $85 million for the Ruiz rematch. Wilder may make $3m for Ortiz if he's lucky. The Ortiz fight bombed badly live gate and PPV. Very badly.

All roads lead to Joshua. Joshua and Hearn call all the shots. Wilder is still a very minor league draw and his only way to mega money is through Anthony Joshua.

Makes sense. But why didn't Haymon and Finkel make that demand or request? They just went into hiding and ignored the $120m.

Why didn't they offer Joshua that $50m offer a second time? Obviously it was a fake offer for PR/media manipulation purposes. tur

No matter what Hearn offered Wilder and Haymon it was going to get turned down. Remember Wilder said he doesn't trust Hearn blah blah blah.
