Cancio should have waited till after this fight to have this conversation with Golden Boy Promotions. Instead he vented to the press and he suffered the consequences.

His head clearly wasnt on Alvarado which was his first mistake. Secondly he got 3 main event spots on DAZN this year. He isn't a blue chip prospect or a house hold name so he got way more exposure then most at the level he is.

Finally I think Oscar and company are getting tired of the bad press they have had this year and the finally said enough is enough.

They are to shifting there promotional outfit now finally.

Mungia or Vergil in my opinion are about to get more headlining opportunities which is a smart move. It's time for Golden Boy Promotions to not rely so much on Canelo.

They cut a former title holder, yeah, just a secondary title holder but still.... it's not like their roster is full of anybody much better let alone fighters more fun to watch.

Cancio and even Alvarado are the types to make these types of upsets and lose to these level of guys. Why not just keep making fun inhouse fights with the belt Rene just won? Alvarado vs Vargas would be good. Cancio vs another tough Mexican journeymen would make a nice co-main.

I believe it that GBP doesn't promote its fighters not named Canelo or Garcia well. When Mattyshe fought Pacman Oscar promoted Manny more than Lucas and even said that the loser should retire. Cue Lucas losing and retiring instead of doing a retirement fight and making Oscar some more money. With Linares against Lomachenko Oscar said similar things and basically threw Linares under the bus. Pablo Ceasar Cano pulled a major first round upset against Linares and had to wait 10 months before fighting again somewhere down in Mexico. I think GBP prioritizes Canelo and Garcia first, Virgil Ortiz second, then there's this power gap and everyone else is a distant third priority. To be honest I think a few years from now Canelo is going to strike out on his own and Garcia is going to follow him and Virgil is going to be Oscar's new golden boy.
