It's obvious that Wilder is not the best boxer. But all it takes is one shot from him and it's over. It's awfully difficult for any opponent to not get hit at least once

Here's another angle. Luis Ortiz would of got hurt really bad if Kenny Bayless would of let the fight gone any further. Deontay Wilder is statistically the hardest punching HW champion in the history of the sport.

Wilder is different. You can’t have the typical conversation about wilder that you would have about other fighters. He doesn’t care if he loses rounds. He lost more rounds than any champion I can remember, but if you were a boxer with a 95% ko percentage would you care about cards? Wilder says he will ko fighters and he does skills be damned

Here's my question: could wilder have actually tried to fight, or did he just know it was inevitable?

He basically took the 1st 4 rounds off and did nothing. Was that because he was just waiting for the perfect spot (a strategy) or was he confused or tentative to get rocked?

i think folks misread what they’re seeing. wilder was tentative the first couple rounds but from round three going, he was doing a lot with that jab. then he started hooking off it and countering ortiz with it which caught me by surprise. then the left hooks to the body which landed well. all done to maneuver ortiz into the line of fire. everyone looks at that final right but the way he pivoted, threw what always look like “lazy” jabs (really finding his range) and then hid the straight right behind a “fake” jab...i’m very impressed.

Give credit where credit is due. Wilder respected Ortiz's power and ability enough to not fight aggressively. Watch how many shots Wilder parried and moved.out of the way of while biding his time.

30 seconds left in the 5th you can see Wilder.has him figured out.

In the 7th, jab jab jab jab feint RIGHT HAND and it's over.

He paws at you with that jab until you take it for granted and then Boom!

And he avoids damage pretty well too. It's ugly, but he gets out of the way and doesn't eat much.

I didn't wish to comment until I'd watched the full fight. I've now watched it.
The punch that knocked out ortiz....
wilder landed many of those to a worse version of ortiz, even after landing multiple rabbit punches...and ortiz could take them better than this one, he could get back up. That makes me think ortiz was told to take a dive in that particular round.

Ortiz was boxing around wilder with ease, it shocked me how easy it was for him...it's as if he was told 'don't worry, wilder won't do anything to you in those rounds, he will make you look good so you can make a case for being this superior boxer..and then you let him land, you go down and stay down' etc.

Yet again a fix like the Fury fight.


I swear, i'm not bitter about the result. I fully expected wilder to win by ko, i just wanted it to be a proper fight, not a choreographed bs fight where you can tell they're just play acting until the big ko where ortiz is told to stay down so they can once again hype Wilder's power.
in the real fight, the first ortiz fight..ortiz was getting back up and at every moment of the fight wilder could still put hands on ortiz.
