Referee reached the ten count so it didn't matter if Ortiz could still fight. Rules are rules.

That’s why before the fight they say that a fighter can only be saved by the bell in the final round. They mean it literally.
Never knew that. Thanks for explain!

Similar here, I turned away from the TV just briefly (surely I wouldn't miss anything) and then hear all the pandemonium, look up and Ortiz is being counted out. Did a quick rewind and saw the punch from the back of Wilder. It was so straight and fast it was still hard to tell what happened.

The truth is that Wilder's strong point is not boxing skills. He is a decent boxer but certainly not world class and absent the knockout factor would lose to most of the top heavyweights. He acknowledges this and it shapes his approach to how he fights. He is not there to win on points but to win by knockout and that is working.

Wilder is underrated in the boxing department, he doesn't get hit much and slowly finds his distance. World class stuff

I'm not sure that's correct. When the fight rules are stated before the fight I have heard them say "a fighter can only be saved by the bell in the lase round." I've never heard it added but only if he's not on the floor.
