Kyvelos and Lujuan were average opponents, but Margarito destroyed them like he should. Some of the better fights like against Mosley or Zab Judah were turned down. That isn't his fault. You are right that Margarito doesn't have any room to challenge a no-hoper in this fight because after all you should be consistently stepping up competition. If he fights Cosme Rivera then I will be legitimately pissed. But if he fights Rivera, Collazo, Williams, Quintana, or Judah I will be fine.
I don't think I'm that hard on Margarito. I mean, if people honestly think he can beat the top fighters in the world, he should be testing himself against the best opposition he can find. I don't think a world champion should be fighting prospects at all.

As for his wins, I think the Cintron win was solid. Andrew Lewis had just been destroyed the previous fight by Mayorga. Diaz was a solid fighter, but not that great of a welterweight. The rest of his wins were against guys who had built up records against nobodies and had no shot. I honestly don't believe you can completely duck a guy for 8 years. If there's a will, there's a way...

Why would Rivera back out? If he didn't want nothing to do with Tony, a guy who is not even in his weight class, he didn't have to mention his name. He didn't have to send out a press release. But the fact that he really wants the fight caused him to send out that letter to Margarito. Why would he back out now? I'm sure this fight's not going to happen because Margarito doesn't want to risk getting another L...

He has only been a title holder for 4 years in which he has had 6 fights. One of those was Cintron and one was Lewis. And you said it yourself he should be testing himself against the best opposition HE CAN. Zab, Shane, and Floyd have all had their chances to fight him and beat him but they didn't. Maybe Margarito is overrated but I won't believe that until somebody proves it. He hasn't lost at WW in almost 10 years and has held a title for about half of the time. You can continue to bash his opponents or you can realize that the only people willing to take him on were contenders looking to make a name for themselves. But all that will change now that his name is in the media and he should start getting bigger fights.
