Those who approve of him as an opponent will simply argue that he won. Collazo lost. Simple as that. Again I don't agree with that mentality but that is the way it will be presented.

Rivera is equally on Collazo's level, and when you just LOSE a fight, your rep takes a little hit. Never said it wouldn't be a good fight...not the best either though.
When will Margarito make the best fight when the decision is in his hands? Right now, I would say the best fight is Jose Rivera. I can say confidently that fight will not happen.

Margarito is ranked the #2 welterweight in the Ring. That's deceiving because it's based more on him not losing rather than who he beat. He didn't move himself up. He let others actually challenge themselves and fall below him when they lost. I'm still waiting for a legitimate reason for this guy to even be mentioned amongst the top fighters at 147. I'm sorry, but beating Hercules Kyevlos, Sebastian Lujan, Kermit Cintron, and Andrew Lewis just doesn't prove anything at all to me. Any fighter can beat up on no hopers and bums to establish a nice win streak. That doesn't make them great fighters. It makes them protected fighters and that's exactly what Margarito is. He's not in any position to be picking and choosing soft competition. He has a lot to prove...

Let's just also point out: Luis who?

The guy who lost to John Ruiz at Welterweight?

I mean, how long can this guy continue to fight prospects and no hopers without catching any hate in return?
Did you know Rivera is a champion?

Margarito vs. Rivera will not happen if Rivera backs down. All Rivera has to do is work something out with his promoter and Bob Arum. Like Margarito said," If the fight doesn't happen, it's because Rivera didn't try to set up something with my promoter."

Those fighters you mentioned, Sin, and the WAY Tony beat them is what makes Tony number 2. The people below him do not have a better resume to trump Tony's. Tony tried to get fights w/ Mayorga and Mosley and they never happened.

The rating is simple...if the guys below you are not beating better guys, and they are not beating guys as CONVINCINGLY as a higher-ranked fighter, then they MUST be ranked lower.

You're too harsh on Margarito. Sure he doesn't have a career defining victory but that is partially because people didn't want to fight him. He destroyed Cintron who although untested was highly regarded. Also Lewis is by no means a great fighter, but he is good and was a welterweight title-holder. Kyvelos and Lujuan were average opponents, but Margarito destroyed them like he should. Some of the better fights like against Mosley or Zab Judah were turned down. That isn't his fault. You are right that Margarito doesn't have any room to challenge a no-hoper in this fight because after all you should be consistently stepping up competition. If he fights Cosme Rivera then I will be legitimately pissed. But if he fights Rivera, Collazo, Williams, Quintana, or Judah I will be fine.

This thread isn't about how good Collazo is or what he deserves. He obviously deserves a title shot, perhaps a rematch, and more public attention... however... that's not what this is about. No one is calling out Collazo because of how deep the Welterweight division is. There are names who are ranked above his that are easier to beat. In time Collazo will get another shot and people still might not want to call him out simply because the risk doesn't substantiate the reward.

Yeah man thats what I don't get. Margarito haters act as if Margarito had lots of trouble beating the fighters he's faced. Margarito destroyed them like an Elite fighter would have or even better.
