I don't agree with their stance but this is transparency in journalism

Yes. It shouldn't happen. I understand Hearn's position on it. But there's no question that the practice has clearly influenced media coverage. Look at the time frame he specifies and compare it to present-day coverage. And watch for how it continues to shift moving forward—and also who is still along for the ride.

dan rafael was a top rank shill for years. i've met the guy. he's the size of a refrigerator turned on its side. i had to make some room so we could pass each other in a hallway backstage.

bob arum used to buy him two steaks at dinner and rafael was in his pocket indefinitely after that.

          this is not new.

when i was a writer i used to pay my own way into events. only thing the promoters provided was a seat in the arena on press row. further back you were generally the less relationship you had with the promoter. i'd usually drive in, watch the fights, write my story damn near anywhere i could get an internet connection and a chair, and drive back home when i was done. once in a blue moon i'd stay at the casino but that **** wasn't cheap and i wasn't making a dime. one of the reasons i stopped was because i was in my early 20's and i didn't have the income.

The public relies on writers and media to get an accurate, objective description of events.

Any time promoters or others can influence that coverage it is a violation of the public trust.

That should be concerning to everyone. Even if it starts out small with just getting extra "perks" from Eddie Hearn or steaks from Bob Arum.

Eddie's not saying anything we didn't already know. Catchy headline, clickbait, **** don't change.

I'm way more concerned with judges/refs getting paid off...a writer can post a biased article and we can all laugh at him while he gets mad...yet some will say the writer was being 'neutral' despite the obvious apparent bias.

A judge can post a biased card and commit a robbery and we all get mad while he laughs....yet some will say the judge/ref was being 'neutral' despite the obvious apparent bias.

Journalists in general are whores, selling out to the highest bidder for access/money.
