I couldn't care less what fighters are making, but apparently people who hate certain boxers don't like to hear or see them doing well in the ring or financially. So they downplay both accomplishments and money whenever they can. Probably just jealousy

Man I am happy for ANY fighter who gets paid...these guys get punched in the face head and body for our amusement...half of them at least probably take lifetime damage from what they do...some purses are head-scratching because you wonder how those purses make sense, judging from how much money the fight will bring in.

But at least boxers are getting paid much more than UFC guys...I can't believe those guys will fight for 50k or something, for a big fight...seems crazy.

I really like seeing when boxers are making great money. Mainly, because they are providing me with entertainment and I think it is important for the sport to have high fighter pay to attract top level talent to the sport. I think it is especially important for boxing because it is a "Poor mans sport" and when they see these Mayweather, Pacquiao and Canelo type paydays it's a great sign.

These athletes also have families to feed and provide for and a very short window to capitalize on.

It seems the majority of posters on this message board are upset that boxers are getting paid.

Examples: Ortiz’s purse for the Wilder rematch, Wilder’s purses for his last two fights, Derevyanchenko’s purse for the GGG fight, Jacobs’ purse for the Canelo fight, GGG’s recent purses, negotiations for the Ruiz-Joshua rematch and negotiations for a potential Davis-Farmer fight. I’m sure there are more examples I’m forgetting.

Does anyone want to share why they’re upset by the higher purses or share any theories about why they think people are upset?

          TIA.
          I can't explain it because I don't think it's true.

Let's take the first example. Ortiz' pay for the upcoming Wilder fight.

Who has said they're unhappy he's getting paid? I think the only debate has been whether it's really >$7M. Some think he's probably getting less and could have got MORE against Joshua.

So who is arguing for lower pay as you claim? I think people debate whether they could get MORE, not less.

The problem is that it's top heavy.

Yeah, guys like Canelo, AJ, Wilder, and Fury are getting paid, but what about everybody else?

It’s so upsetting to some people that they’re pretending he won’t make that much money when it’s been reported that he will.

Man I love reading about fighters getting these huge pay days! A part of me does wish it was shared around a little more, instead of 95% of the cash being split between the top 5 from a pool of thousands of active fighters - who all take the same punishment! However that's the way of the world, you get paid by how much cash you generate (most of the time anyway)

Great. I want all good fighters to earn a great living. But I'm not interested in who's the best negotiator. I'm interested in great fights.

I want to see the best against the best. Not later, but now. Spence and Crawford. Loma and Tank. Fury and Wilder rematch. Either of those two against Ruiz.

I'm glad there are people like Canelo with huge fan bases. But I want to see him fight the best possible opponent at 160 or 175, or whatever. Not just a cherry pick, but a real opponent. A real mandatory.

Seeing the best against the best is what matters most, not purses.
