Scoring Canelo's 4 Controversial Decisions

That’s true, but you can’t just throw jabs. If all you’re doing is jabbing, then you don’t deserve the round.
These 4 controversial fights, in 3 of them the opponent was pretty much just jabbing cautiously. The only fight where the opponent matched Canelo was GGG in the first fight. Where he was throwing power punches, and matching Canelo with them. In the rematch he decided to back off of Canelo and jab for 12 rounds. Of course he’s won’t get rounds like that, when Canelo was coming forward, landing power punches, and daring GGG to come forward as well, which he did not oblige and according to his trainer that wasn’t the gameplan.Comment

Man all I'm scoring is the punches landed and their effectiveness...GGG has a nice jab, it scores a lot...I don't discount a guy's work because he maybe throws more jabs than the other guy, or because he fought in a certain way...all that other stuff is irrelevant really. That’s true, but you can’t just throw jabs. A guy can do whatever he wants in the ring...if he is landing the best shots of the round he gets it...I think that should be a universal opinion.Comment

Canelo 115 Trout 112 - I recall this being spoiled by the announced scores after 8 rounds, but Canelo definitely did enough to win.
Canelo 115 Usain Bolt 113 - No words for this one.
Canelo 112 Golovkin 116 (fight 1) Competitive but clear GGG win.
Canelo 114 Golovkin 114 (fight 2) Late surge from Golovkin for draw.
Canelo 97 Kovalev 93 (my score after 10 rounds) Kov hitting gloves with 95% of his jabs.Comment

You’ll understand judges scorecards better if you emphasize meaningful punches landed per round. Eye catching shots, who’s using effective aggression, who’s backing up, who’s landing more meaningful punches.Man all I'm scoring is the punches landed and their effectiveness...GGG has a nice jab, it scores a lot...I don't discount a guy's work because he maybe throws more jabs than the other guy, or because he fought in a certain way...all that other stuff is irrelevant really.

It’s very simple.
Abel saw the same thing, that’s why he was fired.Comment
