In any event, I wasn't impressed by either fighter and don't think that Austin or Sultan deserve a title shot. Austin who effectively countered Sultan all night did just that. He never intiated any offense and never took advantage of his opponent after scoring a couple of hard combinations.

As for Sultan, where's all this offense that everyone is raving about? I thougth that he was supposed to have a much higher output of punches per round. Having never really been tested, I think after getting tagged by some good right hands, Sultan respected Austin's punch and as a result the offensive exchanges were few between.

I'm actually glad that this resulted in a draw. Neither fighter gave any indication that they could be game against a much stronger and skillful Klitschko. Besides, who would pay to see Austin or Sultan fight for a title?
His offense went away with these 12 pounds he gained.
As I said before the fight, swarming punchers like Ibragimon need to be as lean as possible, and have every ounce of energy they can reserve.

I might have to agree with you; Sultan didn't look mobile at all last night and as a result his offensive seemed dismal at best. Sultan is lucky that Austin did not come at him with any offensive. He was just content with countering Sultan when he came in.

I wasn't thrilled watching this fight as Joe Tessitore was and I kept waiting for Austin to intiate any kind of offense. Boring heavyweight fight in IMO. Neither fighter I think would have any chance against Klitschko.

Not a bad fight in it's own right, but yet another kick at the dead horse that is the Heavyweight division.

I've been watching Sultan closely and this was a very disapointing preformace. I give full credit to Austin, who's improved in the last few years, for using his height and reach, but Sultan should have found a way to adjust.

I had Sultan up by two rounds, but either way a sloppy preformace agaisnt Austin is really a step back, and another sign thing at Heavyweight aren't going to get better any time soon.

Hopefully they'll rematch and Sultan will make the adjustment and get Ray out of there.

The result and fight didn't really do the division any good.

I heard the Ibragimov brothers suck. Any truth to these rumors?

I saw Sultan take some HUGE hooks during that fight and didnt buldge but in the 10th he got floored. Austin did the right thing and went in for the kill but it seems Imbragimov wasn't hurt nearly as much as thought. I loved how he tried to clinch Austin on the way down, lol.

Nah really I like Sultan but I wanted Austin to win this because hes getting old and as he said before the fight this was his last chance to fight for a title. I actually didnt score the fight but I was paying attention to ESPNs opinions of the round by round and I only disagreed with round 11 which they scored it as a draw, I gave it to Sultan but it was close. ESPN had Ibragimov by 1 point, so that means I would have scored it 115-113 Ibragimov. Im happy with the draw though, they both fought well.

Sultan seems to lack the killers instinct or was just being too cautious. He could have finished Austin a couple of times during that fight but didnt go for it. IDK maybe he was just playing it safe because of Austins huge reach advantage. Now that I actually think deeper into it thats probley what happened. I hear Sultan is more of a swarmer and a taller man is not the ideal competition for a swarmer.

And Yes, Timur Ibragimov didnt look good in his last fight with Calvin Brock who also looked not to well. This may be just because they were fighting outside and a big man like Timur who is from a cold place like Russia was probley just drained. Same for Calvin, well almost.

Agreed, though I had it more or less a draw with Sultan perhaps winning it by one round. He does not have the prerequisite tenacity and thirst for blood that the all time great attrition punchers had. Dempsey/Frazier/Marciano he is not.

Sweet knockdown of Austin in the fourth though. He threw a left that missed, saw an opening and shifted gears, and landed a right straight on Austin's chin all in an instant. The guy has serious athletic talent and ring awareness when he's on top of his game, but he seemed rather easy to demoralize. I don't know if that will ever change or not.

I have to congratulate Austin for putting on a mini Buster Douglas performance and rising to the occasion by using his size and relatively limited boxing skills to the utmost. He is a heavyweight who puts his brain, skills, and natural advantages (size and strength) to great use to compensate for subpar handspeed and merely adequate punching power.

With all that said, I think it would in the best interest of both men if neither get a shot at Klitschko at this point. That fight could potentially destroy Sultan's career before it starts and Wladimir would really pose a threat to the 35 year old Austin's health.

I didn't like the result either, but it was a fun fight to watch if you were emotionally invested in either boxer, as was my case.

timor sucks. sultan is a good heavyweight with a good offense but little defense. he's likely to get stopped by the 3 or 4 biggest hitters (wlad,,peter..brewster,,rahman?) in the division but has a good chance against the other guys
