Wlad's the longest reigning HW champion of all time, but, has a **** resume. How do you handle a character like that? Does he not own an ATG record while having a pretty bad fighting record?

The thing about other sports' all time records is interesting. You know Fitzsimmons retired like 28 men, he has the all time knock you out of the sport record. His resume is so-so. Good wins, good losses, and also plenty of wtf's.

Marciano actually holds the record for the hardest punch at 925 ft-lbs. People argue all the time about who hits hardest, but, out of scientifically recorded punches Marciano's is still the most powerful.

Things like that I personally find very interesting. However, a record like that, like most retirements, isn't what you mean by resume. You mean names on a record. Which isn't really as parallel to a long jump record as you've portrayed it to be. A record like Marciano's punch or Wlad's longevity is much more parallel to record like jumped highest, ran fastest, scored most, etc.

Think about this, RJJ has a pretty decent resume, but, he also has something no other boxer in the history of boxing, from ancient sparta to today, has ever done. Everyone compares Roy's run at HW to Bob's but Roy actually had to make weight whereas ever MW before him, including Fitzs, did not. Roy is the only man in the history of boxing to not be a 200+, become a 200+, and still win a title. To me, personally, that's more impactful than his wins even though he has wins over men who are ATGs themselves.

Melankomas was never pointed against. I mean no one landed a single punch on him, ever.

Anyway, interesting perspective. It still seem a bit like triangle theory to me, but, to each their own. I'm not going to tell you who to be impressed by.

nothing in there is relative to greatness

Jones got pinged for steroids, so terrible example

the boxing climate has changed drastically over the years... 8 divs, to 17 divs... 8 world titles, to 100+ titles ... a lot of the things that you mentioned are meaningless

who cares who punched the hardest... you need to land that punch on the right opponent, at the right time, on the right day, in the right fight...

the tried and true method that historians use, is proven... because it eliminates all of the irrelevant stats bells and whistles... who did you beat, with consideration given to when/how

hard luck if you fought in a softer era... in that event, it is 100% correct to say that you never passed the same tests that other guys passed against killers

the guy on the other side of the ring is what makes a fighter special, not meaningless stats

      name his 3 best wins...

then run down the list of GREAT heavyweights until you find one who's 3 best wins are not as good as Klitschko's...

THAT is how good we KNOW Klitschko was

it is disrespectful ******ity to belittle a true great like Hagler... especially in an attempt to elevate a fighter who underachieved because he was unwilling to live up to his own hype
