I don't rate David Benavidez

Well overrated is a relative term, but I don't rate him like everyoe else either. I think Smith and Plant handily beat him right now.Comment

Me neither, he has good handspeed, combinations and power...but the Ring IQ is lacking alot, he also doesn't set his punches upComment

He's deceptive, man... he kinda lumbers round the ring looking like an ill co-ordinated stoner but he has a fine jab and blistering fast combos for a big dude when he decides to turn it on. Can move his feet too, when he has to. Looks to be able to take a bit of punishment too, although he's not really been in with anyone considered particularly dangerous yet... Dog Dirrell's solid but unexceptional, and he's pretty much as good as anyone David's fought to date.
Not too many guys I'd be willing to pick against him at 168... Mundo, possibly, a top form Saunders (if such a thing still exist) maybe, Plant.. not really sure who else.Comment

I agree. However, Benavidez is a slow starter and once he began to find his timing and rhythm, then there's no stopping him.
Without question, Caleb would be very successful early in the fight. He would win the majority of the rounds due to his being the more fundamentally sound of the two and also coupled with his superior speed and movement.
However, he would be forced to fight off the back foot all night until he is inevitably caught and stopped by the naturally wider and stronger David. The longer the fight goes Benavidez wears him down with his superior physical advantages of reach, size, height and power.Comment

I can see it going in that direction also. However, it's highly unlikely though because Plant doesn't possess the kind punching power necessary to hurt Benavidez and keep him off of him.
It takes awful lot of energy and stamina to fight a naturally larger man off you while throwing punches and fighting off the back foot at the same time; While accumulating and absorbing punches in the process also.
I just think that the cumulative effect of Benavidez punches would inevitably wear Caleb down by taking its toll on his naturally smaller frame.Comment

I completely get what you’re saying. I actually expected Uzcategui to beat Plant in the manner you described.I can see it going in that direction also. However, it's highly unlikely though because Plant doesn't possess the kind punching power necessary to hurt Benavidez and keep him off of him.

Plant showed very good lateral movement and ring generalship that night which makes me think he can do the same to Benavidez.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it went the other way though, interesting style matchup, and with Yildirim likely out of the picture now, no excuse for PBC not the make this next.Comment
