He did look pretty flat-footed, but he's got great firepower. It might just have been his gameplan to slowly stalk Dirrell, whose power he clearly didn't respect at all. I was struck by how much bigger he was than Dirrell and I can't help but wonder if he's really a natural light heavyweight.

He's one of those fighters who often starts slow but can really move through the gears. I think he's a hard fighter to beat and I think he'd beat Smith in a great fight.

Benavidez does have areas he needs to improve but good thing for him is that time is on his side as far as age goes. I think the best thing for him would have been to wait until he was a tad bit older like 24 to challenge for a title since he has an obligation to step up the competition now that he is a champion.

That said the key to beating Benavidez at this point is to not engage him but just use the whole ring and pot shot him. You want to keep him in 1st gear for the whole fight if you can. He is one of those boxer that if he starts kicking into gear 3, 4, and 5 offensively then you are going to find yourself in trouble.

Both Smith and Benevidez are light heavies. Both, I think, are bigger than the latest version of Kovalev anyway.
