Do Any Fighters Punch Their Opponents in the Arms These Days?

Ward has targeted the shoulders before, but didn't expend a lot of energy on it. I don't know of any modern fighter that does it like the old days where some guys would try to disable your weapons by specifically and repeatedly going after the arms.
I suspect improvements in gloves might have something to do with it. Better padding is less damaging to arms, and the concussive force isn't going to hurt your arm the way it hurts your body or head. MMA fighters use this technique sometimes, and it's probably because it's more effective with those gloves, and they can also use shins and elbows to damage the arms.Comment

Thanks man. I saw a video where Buddy talks about Kovalev's strategy against Canelo. He said they're going to hit him everywhere from his neck to his body. So yeah. That's definitely part of his game which is awesome. The video's contributor though, didn't want it shared. Not sure why but anyway, you hit the nail on the head.Comment

That makes sense. I think it could still be effective but you'll have to work harder than they did in the old days. I'm not big on those pillow gloves they wear sometimes. Makes KOs less likely and I think more beatings occur because of it which damage careers even more than a knockout would. You make a great point, though, Redd.Ward has targeted the shoulders before, but didn't expend a lot of energy on it. Was trying to think of any specific fight where I heard it, but I couldn't. Found this, but I actually haven't watched this fight yet so I'm not sure if it is accurate (I don't know why it wouldn't be) or if Kovalev followed instructions, but it kinda reveals what I was saying.
---Edit---
Actually, I guess it shows him giving those instructions in the video.
“Hit him on the arm with the jab, anywhere.” Buddy knows. https://t.co/4z18vY0Egx

Yep. There's a video of him telling Kov to hit him on the arms.

I thought that's where I heard Buddy telling a fighter to hit to the arms, but I just rewatched the corner work quickly and I didn't notice him saying it, though I know for a fact Buddy usually gives those instructions.
I think in that fight during the corner work, Buddy was just overwhelmed with trying to stop the massacre

Yeah, Gatti mentioned it in the lead up and I think Larry Merchant mentioned it during the ring walksI thought that's where I heard Buddy telling a fighter to hit to the arms, but I just rewatched the corner work quickly and I didn't notice him saying it, though I know for a fact Buddy usually gives those instructions.
