  • Which boxers lift heavy weights?

I’ve always wanted to know if welterweights like Pacquiao, Thurman, Floyd, or Crawford incorporated any type of weight lifting into their S&C and if so how often?

I have a similar build as them and am considering to start boxing myself, but I’ve been doing a lot of weight training throughout the years so I have a lot of bulk and am thinking of shredding it off before I start.

They probably lift a little to maintain their size and strength. They probably dont max out.

I have a football background and played DT in highschool football.

I wouldnt lose that muscle mass unless it starts to negatively affect you. Think of AJ at HW. If you cant naturally maintain that size then it's not for you.

I was 245 and a lot stronger in highschool but now I'm 190. Without lifting heavy my body naturally maintains this mass. This is my natural size. If I was going to be serious about boxing I could lose the little bit of fat I got and cut to 160-168 lbs.

Strength wise for example then I could put up 315 as my max bench press. Now I put up 285. I'm not sad I'm weaker. But think about this too, less time lifting equals more time you can focus on boxing.

Boxing is both mental and physical. You're already got the mass, now focus on learning.

I feel ya. I’m about 180 tho and for a 5’7” that’s way too much mass. I need to cut down to about 155-160.

Just start boxing, go to a gym ASAP and go from there.

People always saying, "I need to do X before I start boxing." Doesn't matter if you're overweight, skinny, or buff, just get to the gym, man. And no use comparing to elite boxers who have been boxing their entire lives and have reached the pinnacle.

Everyone carries mass differently. I'm build pretty stocky for my height. I also have a big reach at 72 inches.

Like some other posters suggested I would just go to a gym and work on your boxing. The cardio and work will be enough to get you into the shape you want.

I always lift max weight low reps then high reps low weight.

I don't like the way i feel "body building"

Plus i feel stronger doing a million pushups over lifting weights

He did lots of heavy weight lifting. I read a story on him and his training and heavy weight lifting was part of it. It showed in his very muscular build. Bradley was another weight lifter and his build showed it. Guys are not that muscular by nature without lighting. Yarde was another weight lifter. I am not sure how helpful it is since many great fighters don't lift weights and many great fighters do lift weights.
