Man...it is so hard to get to the body against anyone early...especially a big puncher with a nice jab like Kovalev...very dangerous to go the body early against him
Yarde got him with a big left to the body early , and Kovi winced and grabbed his shorts
From that moment on , in that round , Kovi hesitated to throw that jab or the right because of fear of getting hit to the body
Think about it , that was like the second or third round , imagine when Canelo starts to throw to the body , and he’s a body ****er ( typical Mexican fighting , **** the body and the head will come )

When a cub met a Lion with a heart.
Kovalev’s jab bloodied Yard’s mouth all fight, but i give him props for bringing it to Kovalev in 8th. Makes the Killer Jab KO even sweeter, Krusher is still krushing. Kovalev really respects McGirt, not like that RAT mfer Jackson...
Fantastic fight, great comeback, cong**** CHAMP!
Bring on Clenelo at 175!Last edited by MrShakeAndBake; 08-24-2019, 05:03 PM.

If Kovalev can keep his wind, he could possibly keep Canelo on the end of his jab all night and drop 1-2s on his big ass melon.
But it is entirely possible...and I would say most likely...that Kov touches Canelo early with the jab and Canelo's gameplan starts to go out the window a bit.
I guess his plan is to try and weather the storm early and then go after the body mid-to late?...dangerous to take Kov lightly in those opening rounds if that is the case.

I thought his youth would be the deciding factor seeing how exhausted they both were mid way through the fight....but even with his youth Yarde still couldn't outlast Kovalev.
Yeah I think those muscles and the fact that he had never been past like 5 rounds hurt him tonight...if he is going to be great he has to work on his stamina...and not sure the best way to do that if he isn't going to spar...imo a pro fighter should never be that gassed in a fight...just seems crazy that you can't get yourself ready for those moments stamina wise.

I think he's just getting started.
I wouldn't disagree he's never likely to be the #1 guy in the division, but he's got a solid top ten caliber guy future I feel like & he could still win a belt eventually. Granted I don't think I'd pick him over any of the other 3 title holders, but I'm sure there'll be weaker links over time & I suspect he'll improve more off of this L than he did off of all his previous W's so who knows where his future leads.Last edited by richardt; 08-24-2019, 05:04 PM.

I don't know, let's see how it pans out, but put it this way, I wouldn't be surprised if they split

But to have a chance will require several things: First, starting now, he'll need to take all his personal sideshow BS and lock it in a trunk. He'll need to have basically his most disciplined camp in years, including hopping on the wagon and off of the sauce completely from now to then. He'll need to double and triple down on that jab, and finally, do whatever humanly possible to maximize his resistance in the midsection, or at least his defense thereof. And conditioning, conditioning, conditioning.

He is not just getting started, he is done. He has no stamina and cant just erase the muscles that led to the lack of stamina. He is stuck with those. And now his bubble has been burst. He can go back to fighting local product because he isnt going to do sht at the high levels. He was a bag of wind that got popped.
