ESPN has had a name and been around for like 30+ years. Dazn has been around for like a year.

LOL at expecting DAZN to be close to them in a year.

If I open some store next week you think I'm gonna challenge Walmart by year end for sales numbers?

The guy who tweeted those numbers is an idiot and didn't take the time to even read how the tower data is collected. On their website they state these numbers are coming from new downloads only from the Google play store and Apple store and purchases made from those downloads. It's not total revenue these services generate or subscribers. lol For example any downloads of the app made on Amazon app store, smart TV app store or Roku is not included. Any purchases made from new downloads on any of those platforms are not included and any purchases made directly by going to DAZN.com and signing up and paying for new subscription is not included.

Roku and Amazon Fire TV are number 1 and 2 streaming services and make up 70% of the market

Roku and Amazon Fire TV have increased their dominance over the U.S. streaming media player (SMP) market and now control nearly 70% of it, according to a Parks Associates ranking of the top OTT systems in the first quarter.

That's a huge chunk of streaming revenue not included in the data. The public 2018 revenue report says DAZN generated exactly US$277.6 in 2018 which is an average of over 23M per month.

DAZN has seen exponential growth since its launch in 2016, and even more so between 2017 and 2018.

DAZN’s revenue also increased by 136.2 per cent from 2017 to 2018, hitting US$277.6 million.

In 2019 they have more subscribers then 2018 and launched in more countries they are likely around 50M in susbscription revenue a month not 8.8M lol

Dazn does not have 50m a year in revenue in the USA, much less a month.

50M globally. They were at 23M revenue generated globally last year with about half the amount of subscribers they have today. Basically since DAZN launched in late 2016 they have doubled yearly in revenue and subscribers. Last year they generated 277M revenue.

It appears he is just taking one guess (the $8.8M) then diving it by another guess ($15), they allocating that to a third guess (US share 27%).

He comes up with an answer that is obviously wrong based on reported numbers. If he thinks $15 is the right amount to use, then dazn would be at $60M per month globally based on their actual reported numbers, if the 27% US share is correct then that would be $16.2M a month in US income.

Talk about bad assumptions. I'm not saying any of these are correct but he should have seen off the bat he was way off.
Not only bad assumptions but doesn't understand the data.

See the top grossing sports apps worldwide for May 2019, according to Sensor Tower data.

Per sensortower explaining how they come up with Revenue estimates

Our revenue estimates are from the App Store and Google Play in the U.S. between May 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019 and represent gross user spending . Apple apps and Google pre-installed apps are excluded. Android estimates do not include third-party stores.

If the app was downloaded any time before July revenue is not counted. If the app was installed on any device other then Google Play or Apple Store they can't track it.

It's basically new downloads in the month of july and any payment you made from those new downloads directly in the app. For ESPN it's not even just susbscriptions in the revenue. In May ESPN generated 4.7M from these downloads DAZN 11.5M. In July ESPN generated 9.4M and DAZN 8.8M from these downloads. The reason for the spike is UFC had 2 PPVS during the month of July and you can now only buy UFC PPVS on ESPN app you can't buy them from cable or satellite providers anymore. DAZN doesn't sell PPVs if you download the app only thing you can buy on the app is a new subscription. If you already subscribed to ESPN+ for example months or a year ago but you downloaded the app in July to pay for the UFC PPV that counts in revenue but doesn't mean ESPN+ got a new subscription. I'm sure some people signed up for and paid for a ESPN+ subscription but there is no way to know what percent of the revenue is subscriptions and what percent is PPV sales for existing subscribers.

What are they paying globally in rights and programming fees?

And at what deficit must they be running in the US given what they are paying fighters with a minimal subscriber base and no big events (or other sports) to increase that base?

They're July revenue in the U.S. was a little more than half Ramirez purse. Their global revenue probably didn't cover the whole card.

It takes a lot of fuzzy math to come up with the idea that this is good. Even for a company just starting out that's pouring money into the business.

It also didn't make top 10 downloaded apps in America. But everybody is ignoring that a fishing app is more downloaded than DAZN

Who knows their goal isn't even to break even right now. They spent 1.5 billion alone just for the rights to the UFC they aren't making that up today in subscribers lol

We do know DAZN'S debt has already dropped 93%

DAZN is newish...ESPN is a brand that has been around for decades. DAZN still has to make its mark. It’s also more expensive.
