Yes I choose to take what promoters and managers say with a grain of salt...whether it is Loeffler, Hearn, De la Hoya, Arum etc...they are all full of sh.it and occasionally they tell the truth...their job is not to tell the truth...it is to do everything in their power to prop their guy up, and very often that involves lying or half-truths.
If SD himself came out and said he would have fought on May 5th I would give it a little more credence...though tbh I think he would have fought on that date...that's what fighters do and he seems like kind of a throwback/fight anyone on short notice type of guy...a lot of fighters are like that to be fair.
But if the IBF hypothetically mandated SD-GGG I feel pretty confident SD's team would have been vigilant in making sure he got a full camp and max money...which would have meant a delay in the fight.
Let me ask you this - if it would have been so easy to make a deal with him in 1 month...why was Canelo not able to get a deal done with him?...why did it take him and Jacobs over a month, right up until the deadline for a purse bid, to finally get a deal done, when they have the same team basically?...and why is the GGG-SD fight not already done and over with as far as negotiations go?
It took SD a month just to negotiate terms with Danny - and that was presumably an easy fight to make! - how can anyone really say he would have been able to negotiate terms with GGG and fight him within that same one month timeframe
His team is just very pushy on negotiations...no problem with that, they have that right...with that in mind I don't think they would have allowed the fight on May 5th if the IBF mandated that fight...I think the IBF did what they could to make everyone happy in that situation...they allowed GGG a late replacement, didn't force SD in on short notice, didn't force GGG to delay his camp/fight...and said he had to face SD next...still think it was harsh to strip GGG when those circumstances were not really his fault, but it is what it is.
It took SD 1 month after GGG got stripped to negotiate with Danny and they have the same team! lol...and I'm sure they were talking before GGG officially got stripped since that was always the fight that was gonna happen if GGG got stripped.
"The promoters for middleweight contenders Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Daniel Jacobs went down to the wire on Tuesday but made a deal for them to meet for a vacant world title.
Lou DiBella, who promotes Derevyanchenko, and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, which promotes Jacobs, had a difficult and intense negotiation, but the frenemies were able to work out the deal minutes before the scheduled 12 p.m. ET purse bid at the IBF offices in Springfield, New Jersey."
