Didn't Dervy say he would take the fight, on the date, for the money offered to Mungia, which was their first replacement choice?
Also who chooses an inactive fighter on short notice. Not even Floyd Mayweather is gonna get off the couch after 2 years and be sharp. Vanes was retired basically.
He would have been due to get 25% of the purse...unless he was getting around that much money there is 0 chance imo that his team would have let him fight on that date.
And yeah last minute fights will always be a first come first serve type thing...the better fighters will want more money and more time to negotiate, get ready etc.
Vanes was a really good fighter and had a good name...but yeah 2 years inactive and moving up in weight...it was probably an easier fight than Dervy...though tbh Vanes has shown out better than Dervy has so far in their careers...but yes inactive and up in weight has to be mentioned and noticed.
I would just say overall that Floyd fought Conor for like 7 billion dollars or something...and good for him...he took a fight to make some money...GGG decided to take on Vanes on May 5th, to save the big money/legacy fight for September with Nelo...I just can't be mad at him for that.
If someone can find something to really prove to me that Dervy was or would be ready on May 5th...I mean I would factor that in to my decision making...but honestly yeah I just can't be mad at GGG for taking on Vanes as a short term replacement, when Canelo and all that money (and legacy etc) was at stake in the next fight...GGG fought his whole career and basically begged Canelo to get that payday...to jeopardize that...I mean just a bad business decision imo.
I would say the same thing if Floyd or Manny took on a really tough short notice tune up before their fight...just bad business and a bad move imo...and the only people you end up pleasing in those situations are people who never give you any love anyway lol.
If GGG went ahead to fight Dervy, I promise you that the same people who give him flack for that, would say that Dervy ****** and GGG really should have fought Andrade...lol just my opinions anyway.Comment

Serious question...when did GGG say Dervy was too dangerous? Never saw anything like that from him when all that was happening.
But yeah Canelo pissed dirty a month or so before the fight...Vanes was willing to come in on May 5th to save the date GGG had been training for, so G took that fight...Dervy wouldn't have taken that date - he admitted as much.
And if anyone has any reason to argue he would, just look at how Dervy negotiates all of his fights...they tend to get done but not quickly, or at all in the case of Nelo....IBF allowed Vanes-GGG with the clause that G had to fight Dervy next...G's team thought that step aside money would work, but Dervy wanted the fight instead of step aside money so G's decision to fight Nelo cost him the belt.
I mean it's all kind of semantics...but yeah I think most objective people would say that G got stripped for choosing to fight Canelo instead of Dervy...to really get on him for fighting a good (albeit inactive and moving up in weight) fighter on short notice to save a fight date...I mean I don't really get that one.
I would also add that I would never get on a fighter for taking on a late minute replacement to save a fight date...when his original opponent pissed dirty...tbh I don't really see how anyone can get on GGG for that but tbh I think a lot of the detraction he gets on here is way overblown.
I don't get on JeCharlo for taking on Cota on short notice...made sense to take on a decent guy to save the date...and Cota is levels below what Vanes was.
Maybe it is as a result of GGG having a lot of fans and them really supporting him heavily...but yeah a lot of the negative comments people make about GGG just seem really emotional imo and not really based on objectivity...just my 2 cents.
can you read the internet with your head shoved that far up GGGennadiiiy's ass?
first, they said Golovkin wanted more money.....
More than 30 minutes into an impromptu press conference to announce nothing Thursday, a reporter posed an essential question to Gennady Golovkin’s promoter. Tom
then, after delaying for WEEKS..... they switched excuses, and said that it was too short notice.....

If he did, I never saw it...and if he did say that...tbh I don't believe he would have stepped in on that date, not unless he was getting as much money as he felt he deserved to fight someone like GGG...and also I'm sure he would want a full camp to fight someone like that.
He would have been due to get 25% of the purse...unless he was getting around that much money there is 0 chance imo that his team would have let him fight on that date.

Sergiy Derevyanchenko’s promoter and manager have taken exception to Gennady Golovkin’s promoter suggesting Derevyanchenko wasn’t available to challenge Golovki
If GGG would have fought his mando EVERYONE would have said it made sense because it was due after the May 5 fight even if Canelo didn't pop dirty.Comment

Still never saw GGG say Dervy was too dangerous
Still never saw Dervy say he could fight on May 5th
Not sure the outrage over all of that tbh...kind of exposes people imo as desperate for anything to hate on GGG about...they just see red with him and can't give him any credit at all...the over the top hate just exposes them imoComment

Official letter from Team Dervy - they wanted the fight, but not on May 5th from whatever I've read...in the lead up to the actual fight it became clear that 1 month was not enough time for another 'top' fighter to train and negotiate money...I remember reading an article or two to that affect with regards to Andrade and Dervy.
With all due respect man...the 2nd article is almost a month after GGG-Vanes happened, and right before the IBF had to make the decision to strip GGG lol...of course both sides were going to be slinging whatever they could at each other to try and make their case...there are 3 sides to every story, as they say.
Again that letter that Connolly referenced...that I posted there...there is no reference to Dervy wanting to come in on May 5th...they wanted the fight obviously, but not on those terms.
Yeah if GGG-Canelo 2 happened in May...then I guess Dervy would have been next...but in any event I can't be mad at a guy (who had already been strung out in recent negotiations with Canelo and Jacobs, and in boxing terms was an old man at 35+ years old) who decided to take on a late replacement to save the date, and then decide to take on his biggest rival in a money/grudge/legacy fight a few months later.Comment

To be honest I don't really care if he was ready on that date...and all signs point to him not being ready...if he was so easy to negotiate with, why did Jacobs and Nelo take time, and why did one not happen? Just common sense
But yeah GGG made a good business decision to take on a good fighter on short notice to save the date...with the big money fight vs Nelo next in a few months...after he had already been dragged around in negotiations his last few fights...at 35+ years old...just a prudent move from him to take on a guy who could come in on May 5th, save that date, and then take on Canelo in September.
The over the top stuff against GGG is really strange imo and just not backed up in objectivity...but fans will be fansComment

FACT: Loeffler said it
he said that Golovkin wanted to be paid more for fighting such a dangerous opponent
I don't need to find it, because I know that he said it
one of the excuses they used was " short notice ", but.....
"When my fight with Canelo was canceled I never stopped training. I wanted a fight on Cinco De Mayo. I stayed in Big Bear working hard with Abel hoping I would still be able to have a fight..... I never left the gym."

and this is a instant classic.....
GGG Avoided Derevyanchenko on 5/5
Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, told BoxingScene.com for a story posted Friday that, “Derevyanchenko wasn’t up to fighting May 5.”
DiBella and Connolly contend that is the furthest thing from the truth.
“That’s a complete lie,” DiBella told BoxingScene.com. “Sergiy was available the whole way. Tom knows that.”
Derevyanchenko’s team made it clear publicly after the suspended Alvarez withdrew April 3 that Derevyanchenko was willing to take that difficult fight against Golovkin on short notice. DiBella, Connolly, Derevyanchenko and an attorney representing the undefeated contender will attend Tuesday’s hearing, as will Golovkin, Loeffler and an attorney for Golovkin.
“As far as Loeffler coming out and saying recently Sergiy wasn’t ready to fight May 5, so it really didn’t push him back, that’s a flat-out lie,” Connolly told BoxingScene.com. “Tom knows damn well Sergiy was ready and willing to fight Golovkin on May 5th. We publicly said we were willing to fight May 5th. There are also several letters that were sent to Tom and the IBF, stating we were ready to take the fight on that date.
“The truth is they negotiated with several other fighters, but never even offered $1 for us to fight Triple-G on that date. They clearly avoided Sergiy and they know it. We are looking forward to Tuesday’s hearing and the IBF upholding the decision that Golovkin has to fight Sergiy next.”
