Sanders was too large, too powerful, and too aggresive. His reach, coupled with his quick and sneaky left hand, would have spelled "early KO" for the small boned Jones, who was never a big man even for a middleweight.

Jones's inability to take a punch to his jaw stems from his small bone structure and tiny skull. At light-heavyweight he was playing with fire against much bigger men but was too speedy to get caught. He would have been murdered by Sanders within three rounds though. WAY too small and frail to last against a legitimate heavyweight puncher.

hello? styles make fights. sanders is much quicker and hits much harder than ruiz and hes a southpaw. something jones cant deal with. and have you ever seen sanders throw punches? seems to me your going soley on his physical appearance which looks far from athletic,,,but his hands are very fast. sanders downfall of no defense and bad stamina wouldnt matter in this case,,because roy cant pop a zit at heavyweight and cant take a big shot

Jones even said about Sanders that you will win if you make it outta those first 2 rounds, but good luck getting there. Ive said this before, if Jones had trouble dealing with straight lefts from Tarver a straight left from Corrie would take his head off . BUT... fighting Jones and Wladimir are two COMPLETELY different fights. Even as a heavyweight, Jones was still waayyy faster than Wlad and wasnt easy to hit. Wladimir was aggressive and because of his size made a BIG target, and he did not see those punches commin. I doubt Corrie would get to land the big left on Roy and with those body shots, Sanders might be outta gas by Round 4. Roy was too good of a boxer, and wasnt shot yet. That 25 lb weight loss seemed to ruin him.

Jones not completely sold on Sanders fight
            By Dan Rafael, USA TODAY
Roy Jones Jr., as savvy a negotiator as he is a prizefighter, hasn't formally committed to fighting Corrie Sanders yet but said he could be persuaded if the price is right.
Jones promoter Murad Muhammad declared the heavyweight title bout a "done deal" last week, but it isn't, Jones told USA TODAY on Saturday night from Miami.

Jones said that though Sanders has signed for a Nov. 8 fight, he still was weighing his options. Jones, who won the WBA title from John Ruiz in March in a historic move up from light heavyweight, said he's not interested in Sanders if he's stripped of his WBO version of the title. Sanders probably would be stripped for facing Jones instead of his mandatory, Lamon Brewster.

"If they strip him there is no real reason to fight him," Jones said. "But maybe I would if the money is right. I need to make way more than (the Ruiz fight) because that wasn't easy. I just made it look easy."

Jones gave away 33 pounds to Ruiz. He'd be at a similar disadvantage against the 6-4, 230-pound Sanders, a faster, harder hitter than Ruiz.

"No title and Ruiz money to fight Sanders? Forget it," said Jones, who was guaranteed $10 million for Ruiz but made much more when the pay-per-view did nearly 600,000 buys, far more than projected. "But if they bring a big bag of money, I'll whip his (butt)."

If he doesn't face Sanders, Jones wants Antonio Tarver, who won two of the light heavyweight belts Jones vacated after beating Ruiz. "That's the fight I'm most enthusiastic about," he said. "We need to fight. We're from the same state (Florida), and they gave him my titles."

Jones said one of his reasons for being so deliberate in deciding about Sanders is because his father, Roy Jones Sr., doesn't like the fight.

"My dad was like, 'Why fight a man like that for the same money they gave you for Ruiz? He's a dangerous guy. You got nothing to prove. If they're not paying you double or triple the money there's no reason,' " said Jones, who still consults his father and ex-trainer despite a strained relationship. "So I'm still in limbo."
Roy was hit clean by jOHN rUIZ and took it BUT Ruiz is a slowy heavyweight not known for his power but his hugging. Sanders I belive was south paw and Roy had been dropped by a south paw previously in his career ( Lou Duvalle)sp..Sanders wasnt a great boxer but had mad power..IF he connected with Roy it wouldve been lights out. I do think Roy had a good chances of winning a desicion against anyone if he fought smart

well said, Corrie is a good fighter, but he wouldn't be able to catch RJJ back then
