Wlad could pull out of this fight if he wanted to and it wouldn't be much of a big deal mainly because he could always go back to the "who the hell is Shannon Briggs, and what has he done to get a title shot?" I dont think anyone would criticize him for it. The fight does seem rather meaningless. He can pick someone who is a bigger name but with less power, like Ruiz, since he is not fighting Ibragimov. But Briggs/Wlad hasn't been signed yet, so we will see.

Very interesting indeed, and the route to the unification finally shows, if Peter beats Toney, he is then more then likely to beat either Rahman or Maskaev, and if Wlad beats Briggs, we got a rematch for unification, and possibly the real linear champion.

The lineage is so split at Heavyweight now the only way it will be repaired is if someone can unify the major titles.

That's quite a task considering all the politics and promotional ties that will try and prevent that.
