LAMPLEY ANNOUNCED BEFORE THE SIXTH ROUND THAT GATTI HAD THROWN FORTY SEVEN (47!!) power shots through five rounds. Fewer than 10 punches per round. That is a punch every eighteen seconds. LMAO.

And you are gonna tell me that Gatti never stopped throwing?? Was it because PBF was running?? NO. Floyd was in range and in the pocket all night. He just took your boy's heart. EARLY.

Just by comparison: Arturo Gatti landed (not thrown, LANDED) 463 punches in 12 rounds ve Tracy Patterson. That's 39 punches landed per round. Against damgaard, gatti threw 853 and landed 328.

Gatti just cowered and stopped throwing against Floyd. He let a smaller man back him up and take his heart.

Your boy Gatti has an excuse after every fight. Against Floyd, it was "he's just too fast". Against Baldomir, it was "he's just too strong".

Well, Goldilocks, who can we get you...A Gamache rematch?

I agree with your analysis, but I don't think that any opponent took Gatti's heart. IMO, what happened was he ran into a more skilled opponent in the likes of Floyd and DLH. Floyd was too fast for him... not really an excuse, more of a realization. Baldomir also was too strong for him. My point is that yes he taken out of his game against Floyd, but that was more because of Floyd's extreme skill advantage than a lack of heart.

          Mag,

But his ONLY shot against Floyd was to walk forward through some of the early fire and try to get PBF with something big...or at least test Floyd's body. Did you see him try to do that?

He told Lampley/Merchant/Jones in the fighter meeting that he was going to punch Floyd's shoulder off. Well, PBF was right there. Was Gatti laying leather on whatever skin he could find?

The reality is that Floyd wasn't going to be outboxed by Gatti. Even non-boxing fans could have told you that. But how did Arturo get discouraged from brawling so early?

          Please tell me how.

PBF is clearly hyper-skilled. But Jesus Chavez, NDou, Corley, Castillo, etc all TRIED to walk forward and throw whatever they had. I did not see that from AG.

thats because arturo was trying to box, he was trying to walk in behind his jab, but his jab couldnt land and when he threw more than a jab floyd would stepp back, floyd was too quick on his feet for gatti to even try and get close it would have looked like when baldy would try and rush gatti and miss, so its understandable, you cant take **** away from gatti

Two words... Buddy McGirt. He is a good trainer but a bad fit with Gatti. McGirt loves to tell all of his fighters to box more regardless of the situation or their particular skill set. For Gatti to try this against Floyd was suicide. But I do see your point and Gatti didn't have to listen to McGirt like he didn't this past Saturday. He did say he would hit Floyd wherever he could (in the arm, shoulder, top of the head etc.) and I never saw that.

Gatti wasnt brawling like he should have. not to say he wouldve won, he might have been just a little more succesful

I dont think he had a shot against Floyd no matter how he fought. Floyd is just too skilled for him.

I don't think you know about boxing as much as you think you do. None of those guys Gatti fought are in the same level as PBF. Obviously, Gatti has to respect that and be careful of getting his ass countered more by punching more. So Gatti had to carefully pick his opportunities to throw his own combination.

And "my boy" Gatti made no "excuse". He was praising PBF for his quickness and the reason why he lost. An "excuse" is "I had an off night." Gatti was man enough to say he lost to a much better fighter.

I have a theory that very good fighters generally make ****ty trainers because they don't understand the concept of "not being able to do something". Buddy was a good, athletic fighter, so he is telling guys to do what HE would have done. By contrast, Teddy Atlas and Freddy Roach always struggled for whatever they got in the ring. They understand that sometimes you have a better guy in front of you, and you have to win on heart or conditioning or finding your opponent's technical flaws.

Buddy is telling Gatti to slip Floyd's punches and move his upperbody. HUH? Against the best boxer in a generation?

McGirt quote after the fifth round vs. Mayweather: "C'mon, baby. You still have seven rounds to go". True Story.

Good point Gatti never really makes excuses when admitting defeat.
