What can be done to prevent more tragic boxing deaths like Maxim Dadashev's?

People please list your suggestion other than the obvious, [banning that we don't want].

It's all too easy to say Buddy should have stopped it sooner.

One clue I found is that Buddy himself said by 2nd rd IIRC, Maxim wouldn't drink water--just spitting it out, possibly unable to swallow due to neurological impairment early on. [possible Bulbar palsy]

What other signs were there in the fight?

I think that EMTs should be at ringside. The moment a fight is stopped take him to the E.R. It was too long here after they stopped it before they helped him out of the ring. Every minute counts to stop the bleeding or swelling. If sometimes it turns out to have been unnecessary that's a small price to pay vs a warrior's death or lifelong disability.

What more can be done now?

      Fair enough.
But what about here where from early rd, Maxim could not swallow?

Maximum of 10 rounds for championship fights, 2 minutes a piece.

Doctors in corners every round looking for concussion symptoms.

I think it's always a hit or miss.. brain injuries are sooo dynamically sporadic. When there's a rapid swelling, concussion, man it's almost impossible to reverse the effects. I mean it's insane that your head has to be opened to relieve the pressure and release blood from the area...

          it's a gruesome sport

Maybe have doctors look at fighters in between rounds? I don't think there is a machine yet that can see the brain at any time but something needs to be done. Some fighters don't even need to be hit hard to get a brain bleed so it's hard to know.

Like Gerald McLellan, most of his fights were very short and that one fight was where everything went wrong. Then you have a guy like Pacquiao who has been knocked out cold and been fighting his whole life and never suffered a single brain injury. It all depends on the fighter.

RIP, sucks when this happens. Really makes the sport hard to like.

There is really not much you can do.
              Everyone's body reacts differently.
              That's the sport. Gruesome.
You're not supposed to get hit in the head. Yet this is a sport.

The McLellan case is so tragic because all you needed was a non-corrupt ref enforcing the rule against rabbit punches. Has anyone counted how many?

Gerald said by early rd, he could not understand corner's instruction. So that's a clue that trainer should give some quick test or question or as was written a dr. to check between rds if damage was absorbed.

Yeah, good point. Other than the boxers, it's really hard to call anybody else in this sport "professional". Too many times have guys been taking a beating and the fight goes on and on. A devastating KO is different but a sustained beating needs to be stopped immediately and rabbit punches make it even worse.

I understand nobody wants to quit and all that but sometimes, it's for the best. People dump on AJ but that could have been him if he kept taking punches. Sometimes it's worth it to fight another day. Some guys get KOed and never wake up.

And OP makes a good point. EMT at ringside so the fighters can be taken care of as soon as possible.
