This move by the WBC seems more about protecting the WBC's image than protecting Canelo's.

If Canelo ditched the WBC belt again, that hurts the WBC more than it hurts Canelo.

So they've invented a new honor that allows Canelo to do whatever he wants without it seeming like Canelo ditched their belt again.

I'm assuming this distinction was dreamed up in conjunction with Golden Boy. Canelo has no reason to reject this honor. Every fight of his is a title fight now, no matter who he fights, no matter the division. Canelo vs anyone at any weight.

you never know. He may find it beneath him to have a belt that cannot even be won or lost. Especially if people start giving him a bunch of jazz on social media. He has shown in the past that he will dump a belt in 2 seconds if he wants to. And maybe he is at a point where he knows that as far as HIS legacy is concerned, "titles" dont really matter much anymore. So why pay 3% of his purse for some absurd "franchise" thing,...........

Come on dude can we at lest be real. Charlo is a big, strong MW boxer puncher that is low reward and high risk for GGG and Canelo. Jacobs, who was the same type of MW, but older, didn't get fights immediately with either one of them as well.

I am not saying Charlo would win but guys like Charlo usually have to wait until they are either mandated to fight, or show they can up the financial reward.

I know a kid (19, years old,) here in México he has some regional belt and trust me, those belts means a lot to them. And those titles open doors, he will fight in a TV card.
