If you defeat the super champ you become super champ (I think?). If you defeat the franchise champ you become a contender for the WBC champ in that division with consideration to become the mandatory. So if Kovalev beats Canelo at 175 he becomes the WBC diamond belt champ with consideration to become mandatory for Gvozdyk.

This is the WBC stripping Canelo, but trying to play nice and keep good PR with the cash cow. No way around it.

It looks like they're avoiding stripping him. They're letting him do whatever he wants while still getting a cut of all his fights no matter what division it's. Who was up next for the mandatory? After the IBF said they were next and took it back because it wasn't their time whose time was it?

Not at all. Canelo can still fight Andrade sulecki winner and be undisputed. Why would you say he can’t?

Avoiding Publicly stripping him* If he is no longer the full titleholder (which is what he is..as dumb as it sounds) then he is effectively stripped. I think WBC was next and IBF jumped the gun and realized their mistake. If Canelo had no intention of fighting the mando anytime soon anyway then this is a good PR move to make all sides happy, but IMO in reality Canelo was stripped.

Partially. Remember when machado beat the super champ corrales but then they demoted him to regular champ and rank fought a featherweight coming off a loss and they elevatedhom to wba super featherweight champ.

These organizations just do what they want. It’s so cray

^^^^^this^^^^ 100% true. They knew Canelo wild sumo the belt of they enforced their mandatory. This was all about continuing to collect those sanctioning fees.

Just like they let Floyd keep the wbc 147 and 154 and didn’t enforce mandatories so they could keep collecting from him too. Just this right here is even a step above that.
