These are the same casuals who praise Hopkins resume which was garbage at 160. He hid out and padded his record against a long string of no-hopers in order to break Monzon's defense record and avoid prime Toney and Jones at 168. While we are at it, lets talk about Monzon's record as well. His resume is full of washed up past-prime opponents and blown up WWs.

I could only imagine the ****storm GGG would receive if he rematched any of the guys he had already beat, let alone more than once and more than one guy.

this is true, but canelo beating cotto and khan at 155 wasnt really a 160 campaign, the ggg fight was there and neither guy decided to give up a single pound, canelo decided he wasnt ready yet for 160 a weight he never fought before and dropped the belt, which is the right thing to do instead of draining an opponent or holding title hostage... but then immediatley after that canelo made offers to ggg , in fact canelo came to an agreement to a ggg fight befere ever fighting above 155, he didnt even needed to test the waters like most fighters will do before fighting the top dog of the next division...

What do you make of the Lara and Ward situations?
Yep...waste of time in general I feel...but I do enjoy talking boxing so sometimes I get carried away :0 lol. Lara and Ward stuff will probably be long but here it goes lol.

Full disclosure I have always appreciated Lara's skills and rate him very high as a boxer...and I have never really been a big fan of Ward...just have never really seen the dominant skills/separation from him when he's been in with good fighters...meaning even guys like Bika and Barrera etc.

I guess overall I would say that I think GGG is a top 3-5 star in boxing over the the past 5 years...but honestly he seems like he is the most talked about fighter - positive or negative combined...he has his support from 'GGG' fans...and then 'Canelo' fans by and large don't like him...and 'Floyd/Ward' fans don't either...so any time his name is mentioned it gets attention and is newsworthy...and gets a lot of comments from those 3 groups.

I think a lot of fighters know this...so his name gets mentioned any time they have a fight coming up...or maybe even when they just need/want some attention...you see it some with Andrade this week imo...I have just noticed that pattern with fighters and talking about GGG over the past 5 years...it helps to sell their fights and get them some attention...so I think guys who 'call him out' usually fall into that category - just wanting some attention.

Honestly I think Lara would have taken the fight at 160...I think he has shown he is pretty open to fighting whoever is available, and is pretty easy to deal with...but at the same time I think he was just saying he would fight GGG...but didn't really have a ton of interest in it...no one is, or was, really looking for that fight ya know...just a very high risk and low reward fight.

Not just from probably taking a loss perspective, but from possibly getting hurt as well...so yeah I think Lara would have done it, but unless it was mandated I don't think either side really would have pushed for it...if it was just up to GGG and Lara it would get done.

But each guy had other similar options at their own weight class to keep them busy...if Lara realllly wanted it he could have come out and talked about the fight non-stop and tried to force his way...but I don't think he sent in an offer and again I don't think he really was wanting that one.

Basically I think if Lara/GGG was mandated, or if fans were really clamoring for that fight to happen...I think Lara would come up to 160 and that fight would have gotten done pretty easily.

I would give Lara a chance in that one...but Lara frustrates me with inactivity sometimes so I think he would piss away rounds to GGG who is always active...and I also think there is a good chance GGG would just go for broke and would end up stopping Lara...Lara just isn't really that big and I think eventually GGG would have gotten to him.

With Ward...all I remember hearing about that situation are 2 things: 1) when Ward was inactive/injured/dealing with promoter issues...HBO brought them in and GGG was ready to fight right away...Ward wanted a few tune ups first...which makes sense to me as GGG has always seemed like a 'right now' guy...and Ward showed with Kov that he wanted some tune up fights first before the big fight.

I think after that meeting GGG basically said 'get with me when you're ready'...as the A side there I think GGG handled that correctly...the 2) thing was when I think Ward sent GGG a contract to fight after GGG signed the Lemieux fight...but again I think Andre wanted some tune ups before the big fight, for each guy, and GGG at that point was next in line to face Canelo/Cotto and finally get his big fight/money.

So I can understand looking past that offer...it did just seem like a way for Ward to get some attention imo.

Honestly I think that fight would have been difficult to make in any event because I think Ward would have viewed himself as the A side...but GGG was pretty clearly the A side...so just hard to see them coming to terms...I feel like Ward always liked to have everything in his favor in negotiations (Dawson fight..never fighting Froch in the UK or Bute in Canada etc).

Which is smart, especially when I think his margin was very small in fights so judging often time came into play...but when you don't have leverage I don't really see a fight getting done in that scenario.

Ward had the option to move up and fight the 'boogeyman' instead of fighting the smaller boogeyman in GGG...and that is always a better bet imo...you get less flack if you lose to the bigger man...if Kovalev wasn't around I think the GGG fight is more likely to get made as Ward would probably have been more likely to negotiate and get a deal done...but then again he may have just been content to move up to 175 and try and win a belt there and go about his career like that.

But yeah I think that fight with Ward would always have been difficult to make...GGG was the A-side there and against Ward I think he knows he would need to use that leverage to ensure a good chance of victory...and Ward should have been the B-side but would have wanted to act like a 50/50 star or even the A-side...dictating tune up fights etc..and he was always very picky in negotiations anyway...my 2 cents.

          What are your thoughts there?

I remember a while ago pulling up some of Monzon's videos online...just a completely different sport they were fighting compared to today's fighters...I respect people who compare fighters in different eras by what they accomplished in their era...but I agree that even then, a lot of the high rating of those resumes compared to GGG's is odd imo...you hardly notice any good/great names in their primes as big wins on anyone's resume.

I do think some guys from the past could have found a way to compete today...but Monzon looks like a different weight class (much smaller) and almost amateur type fighting imo based on what I saw of him...no disrespect just was a little surprised at the acclaim he would get compared to what I was seeing.

The real reason is to be found in the fanbase rivalries on here and the tribal nature of sports and boxing fandom. What people care about ain't GGG himself but scoring points over his fans - or rather certain among his fanbase.

Ultimately you can make any arguments you want to both make the case that GGGs resume is not as bad as some would have you believe and to explain why it does lack the top names that might garner more respect, but folk you're trying to convince ain't seeking genuine debate here, so don't expect to change any minds.
Its not even a debate, like you said, he's trying to convince casuals. We aint ******, we know what time it is & you trying to be nice. F that! This the fight Game! Tell Sissy G to MAN the FVK UP! Jermall Charlo, Boo Boo or retire & get the fvk out the game.

Becuase he ducked Billy Joe Saunders when Billy JS called him out he also avoided Andrade, JerMall, Derev & chose to 🍒pick a fight against Vanes Kardashian and Steve Wilkos I mean Rolls instead. At least give Daniel Jacobs a rematch like Canelo gave you after u cried about the judges like if you're too much of a pu$šy b!tch to box against different competition rematch Danny J

I never got a handle on all the facts re Ward and GGG so I appreciate the breakdown.

As for Lara, I agree with much of what you say. Both sides would have reasons not pursue it.
