  • Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder on Joshua Clash: We Still Gonna Fight, Why Not

Despite the allure being removed of two unbeaten heavyweights colliding for the undisputed heavyweight championship, Deontay Wilder doesn't see any reason why a fight with Anthony Joshua still can't happen. "We still gonna fight, why not," Wilder (41-0-1, 40KOs) stated matter-of-factly during a recent installment of Sirius XM At The Fights.

So Wilder wants Ruiz's leftovers now.

Amazing that he was not certain of the fight before hand, but now after the defeat he is.

Was John Ruiz a Mexican heavy weight Champion? Why they kept saying Andy Ruiz is the first? Unless one was born in Mexico and the other born in America, I must be missing something.

Classy statement by the champ. Too many boxing fans loose track of this being an actual sport.

In no other sport including UFC is there a belief amongst this many fans that someone is completely washed up and should retire after there first loss. Especially as an heavyweight, fight long enough and you will get caught.

If AJ loves boxing he will be back. And it’s possible after seeing the brutality of these fickle fake fans and selfish promoters, he will come back with a mentality better fitting of a Champion.

Fight the best competion and stay sharp. Fight mediocre fighters and you pick up lazy traits and bad habits that put health at risk.

I still want to see the fight. Granted some of the life had been ****** out of it, but I’d still pay to see the fight.

“We still gonna fight, why not?” Wilder stated…
“That’s just how it is. (A loss) shouldn’t define who you are. (…) The hard part is getting knocked down so you can get back.”
“Of course we can still fight, but first he gotta pick himself back up,” … “We gotta see if he picks himself back up, dust himself up. Does he pick himself up or does he stay down? Right now he’s down, his mentality is weak right now. It’s gonna be interesting to see how he takes this time and rebuilds himself and get himself back into the mix. When he do that, I’ll be here.”

Wilder sounds like he put down the marketing megaphone for a moment and spoke rationally, and agree with everything he said.

There has to be some lingering disappointment with Joshua. Wilder took a gamble in turning down the DAZN deal he was offered figuring they would either sweeten the deal, else he could top it some other way.

The gamble relied on them both continuing to win, but AJ didn't, and with AJ losing much of his allure, Wilder may be faced with not being able to match the numbers in the DAZN deal again - ie gamble didn't pay off, but through no fault of his own.

Events may still come good so that Wilder can top the original DAZN deal, but not looking as rosy as it did.
