Just after the Joshua fight I saw Shane Mosley's reaction to the result, and because of the way Mosley was slurring his speech, started researching 'punch drunk' and the medical cause - it quickly led to some of the worst cases, which included Meldrick Taylor.

Not as bad as Jerry Quarry though. By age 50 Quarry was unable to feed or dress himself - astonishingly, he was allowed to fight just 3 years before that at age 47 (where, of course, he took a beating).

Reading the article again, sounds like Taylor has a place to live. According to th article Taylor was doing the evicting not being evicted.

Sad, sad to see what he has become. Sad that he didn’t safeguard his money, invest it, and sad that he got involved with substance abuse

Amazing how a single incident can forever shape who we become in life. Life has not been good to Taylor since his loss to Chavez.

Taylor went on to win a lot of fights including world title against a very good fighter at 147 after Chavez. It's comical how people pretend that Taylor went downhill right after that fight. It's a weird way of trying to give Chavez credit for something so ridiculous.

I agree, however, he should have been awarded that win vs Chavez. He won that fight.

Win or lose the damage he suffered in that fight was irreversible. Had he got the victory I guess that soothes the pain but he was still beaten brutally.

The other angle is, when the ref feels a fighter has had enough he should not let the fight continue, simply cause the guy is ahead on the scorecards. In this instance that would be robbing Chavez of his remarkable comeback.
